which fuel pump to get?
I would like to upgrade my current fuel pump for safety reasons(FI and it's time anyway). Question is which one to get. I hear things about the 09 pump and the walbro 255 lph. Question is why would anyone spend +$200 bones for an 09 pump when you can get a walbro 255 for +70 bones? I also read on the BHR site that you need to melt on the siphon assembly so does that mean litterly melt it on(within reason) or get it real tacky for a better seal.
There are a ton of 255 lph walbro pumps on ebay but some have a different title so which one is it.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Walbr...Q5fAccessories - GSS-342
or is it one of the other 1000+ walbro pumps on ebay

Definitely buy the Walbro from BHR. You don't melt the o-ring. You buy an o-ring that is 1/2 the thickness of the original and install it. You melt the popoff valve on to the stack on the fuel pump outer assembly. Two different things.
I posted the exact specs on the correct o-ring in that thread when I installed mine.
I just did this and it was no big deal once I got the pump assembly retaining ring off. That was a PITA. You really need 2 people or a 4 leg tool to remove the pump retaining ring.
The reason you'll pay more for the '09 pump is you're buying the whole assembly and you're buying it from Mazda.
Hope that helps.

+ purchase or borrow the fuel pump retaining ring removal tool. The one I bought wasn't stout enough (only 2 prong) so I had to stand on it to keep it from popping off the ring while my wife turned. I hear the Mazda tool has 4 prongs and does pretty well but is much pricier. The best bet is to borrow one from someone.

Is the retainer ring on the RX8 pump unique or is it the same as most other cars? I remember the fuel pump ring being a bitch on the RSX but nothing a hammer and big flat head couldn't handle.

$90 shipped is about as good a price as you'll get on the walbro. I did a lot of shopping around for mine (not for price but for information) as there are 3 variants of the 255 high pressure. The variants (GSS340, GSS341, and GSS342) have to do with either the outlet or inlet location (right, left, center) and not so much the pump mechanics. I'm all for buying crap off ebay (clear corners, trim pieces, brittney spears collector dolls, whatever), just probably not fuel system components when the cost savings is only a couple bucks and you don't know the vendor.

the 09 pump has worked well for me and as more get into the market the prices will come down. I saw one with a claimed 10 hrs of use for $125 recently. Mazmart stocks the 09 used pump.
I just like the redesigned cup/system and venturi ---matched with a bosch pump and replaceable filter.
Both seem to work and it is good to have options. Is one better than the other? I have no idea!
SInce you were asking about the 09 pump though i would just throw my thoughts in.
I remember when the only solution was to get a new oem assembly anytime a "symptom" would show.
