Yeah I’m running a F1 kit with the 11lbs alum and the "stage 3 5 puck" and I love it. I found the clutch softer to depress too, but the snap back allot sharper stiffer and faster.

I really bled the master and the slave, I bled them really really good the old fashioned way with 2 people, and it made the softness go away, but I still agree with you it feels soft to depress, but still strong to hold down, and tons of snap back.

I have the Exedy Stage 2 clutch and lightweight flywheel (12lbs). I love it.

I have Fidanza, works fine for me. I wouldn't get something wayyy too light cuz it will not be able to retain energy as good as a heavier one.

Next time I will try Exedy/Mazdaspeed. I have my 2nd 8.

Flywheel has nothing really to do with the cw balance...SO YES...

The counterweight has to balance with the front weight.....

Thought I'd give some of my personal input. Just recently had a clutch and fly done. Went with the exidy stage 1 and act streetlight flywheel and love it. No probs at idle or on hills. And the rpms seem to be exactly where I want them when shifting. And the response if the engine is soo much nicer. Though I have 1 thing and I'm shure it's not horrible. When it's put to the floor. It feels like the gas peddle is getting sucked to the floor and hangs there for a half sec on let off

The Mazda "52X" counterweight is balanced for the 4-port/AT engine, which has a slightly different front counterweight than does the 6-port engine. ACT takes the Mazda counterweight and rebalances it to better match the needs of the 6-port engine. This is why I only offer the ACT counterweight on my website.
Thanks for the reply, luckily I bought my flywheel and cw of you recently

because if it's too light, the rpm will drop way too fast under certain condition.

if I want the lightest flywheel, I can go ahead and get a 4 lbs flywheel, but it will be a nightmare driving it on the streets.

I think I'm going to give this one a try...

4.40lbs for use with 7.25" twin disk clutch which is also significantly lighter than stock.

Yeah there are lighter options out there, I think the 7.25" setup is a good compromise for what I need it to do. I also don't want to get too small with the clutch like 5.5" or 4.5", or any lighter on the flywheel because I will need to drive it on the street every once in awhile and still be able to drive onto trailers without annihilating the clutch. I would also prefer not to switch to a hydraulic throwout bearing that requires adjustment often.

With anything I guess it's all about how much money you're willing to drop, the range of choices for the super lightweight niche in the clutch/flywheel category seems to be price, performance, low speed drive-ability and service intervals.

Can't wait to try it out though.

Carbon-carbon discs for a smooth launch and a low cost ATV winch on the trailer. Solves all your issues, except for cost ...

Yeah I've always been amazed that an entire clutch pack can fit in the palm of your hand. The 4.5" twin disc units are ridiculous.

Yeah can't have it all lol. That would be the ideal setup but the 7.25" package is already more than I was wanting to spend. It'll do.

On the other track car that I get to drive ('94 Miata 1.8L with 125WHP), we converted over to the earlier 1.6L sized clutch. Went from an 18.5lbs stock flywheel to a 7.0lbs Fidanza, and also went from the stock 8-1/2" clutch to a lighter weight and smaller Exedy Stage 2 which is 7-7/8". Difference was incredible, entirely different car to drive.

a Tilton 5.5" single disc c-c setup is rated for 250 lb-ft and would come in under 10 lbs total for the flywheel with mounted clutch assy

Does anyone know if the Mazdaspeed flywheel is still available to buy? I've in Canada, but having a heck of a time trying to buy one - every online store I poke is out of stock! Am I chasing unicorns here?

well, I personally likes a 1 piece design more than multi-piece like the Fidanza that I'm using. if they still have it by next week I might grab one and keep it as backup

There are other manufacturers that use one piece designs as well like ACT and Exedy... with the mazdaspeed it's just more money for the name...

Thanks all! I ordered one, but hopefully I actually get it and I don't get an out of stock reply I got it from Mazdaparts.org, is this where you see two available nycgps?

Yes it's more money, but its a single piece design and hopefully the weight distribution will strike a balance that I need for a daily driver driven by myself and wife. I like the extra strength you get from the materials they used as well. This thread and others on this forum was a big help!

It's fine for a daily driver, I didn't even know I had a lightweight (mazdaspeed) flywheel till I pulled the gearbox
