CA Exhaust sound comparison

Ok, so I wanted to get a new exhaust system for my 04 RX-8. I know the hp gains, if any, aren't going to be very big at all. I'm just doing it for the sound. I'm looking to get either the Racing Beat system or the Mazdaspeed. I was wondering which was louder because cops here in my area loooooove giving out fix-it tickets to ppl with loud exhausts. My other car, which is a 97 eclipse, had an HKS Hi-Power system and I had to put the stock muffler back on 'cause it was too loud. I definitely don't want one as loud the HKS. Thanks.

the RB is a bit more tame then the MS but if you're keeping the OEM catalytic converter on, either exhaust should be fine.

Well both the exhaust you are looking at are on the "quiet" side as far as aftermarket catbacks go. you should be ok...

there are two mazdaspeed exhausts.

the single can, which is very very close to oem but supposedly more flow. and the dual can, which has more sound.

I also like the look of the RB better then MS. The exhaust tips are slightly larger and I feel it does a better job of 'filling up' the exhaust shrouds.

The RB sounds almost stock at idle and light acceleration. You really won't notice a big difference until you really get on the throttle.
I used it for over two years with the OEM cat and loved it. I've since switched to the RP High Flow cat + RB exhaust and the tone is perfect. (IMO)

Thats pretty lame though that they got you about exhaust noise considering most catbacks are supposed to be 50 state legal.

On a side not I agree with Jedi in terms of looks of the Racing Beat exhaust

It is even worse with MS rear diffuser, the MS exhaust tips look tiny in there.

Yeah, it freakin' stupid. I had to get the car sound tested and it passed at around 90db. Somewhere around there. Had to go to a state ref. But the last cop that pulled me over said I should get rid of it. I was sick of all the crap I was gettin from them that I went ahead and did it.

Are both systems noticeably louder than stock?

both don't attract much attention but have a nice deep tone that sounds real good.

appearance wise i like the RB because of the bigger tips.
