280 means the spring will exert 280 lbs of force when compressed 1 inch from its neutral position. 560 two inches, etc...

progressive rates increase progressively, so at one inch they could be 200 lbs then at two inches maybe 450 lbs.

if you are not getting the car corner weighted, you don't need the coil over.

is it better to get konis/springs

or get matched stuff like mazdaspeed? part of me figures that since mazda puts out a spring/shock setup - they are meant to go together and woudl work well.

if i just go buy konis, i know it's a good shock, but would it work as well with any old spring off the shelf as well as a setup that was designed for the car like MS?

I am the kind of person that wants *some* comfort for daily driving, but woudl like a car that is stiffer and has a LOT less bodyroll than the car does stock.

i will use this as a third car / sometimes to work/back and for taking fun drives on local twisty roads, *maybe* it will go to a track event like once a year - just for fun. this will be as street car 99.9% of the time. NOT a track beast.

Mazdaspeed shocks/springs are for you then .....

if you are using it as a street car, you will be happy with either. you can go with koni's and you have options for height lowering. the stiffness of the springs will play a factor in your ride as well, but the koni's are stiffer than stock. the mazdaspeed springs and shocks are stiffer as well, but you will be limited to that stiffness and height. it's not a bad combo though if you aren't picky, plus it's proven handling performance.
