I considered that, umpuck. but then I thought - hm, what if something serious goes wrong with the car while it's still under warranty. Would I consider getting them to put the old exhaust back on before I took it to the dealer - to avoid any "hassles" with the warranty?

Looks like that might not be an option though, and is probably more trouble than I'd be willing to go to in that situation anyway.

Borla question

I read on here once that if you are installing the Borla exhaust you need either a nut or bolt that is not included from Borla. I can't seem to find the thread again, so if anyone recalls what I need, I'd appreciate it. I hope to install it in the next couple of days.

Not true, the Borla comes with everything you need with the exception of exhaust hangers. However, as it's designed to mount in the same places as the stock exhaust, you can reuse the hanger that came with the car.

Cool Tis true ...

It is true, the stock ground wire at the left tip bolts to the muffler, the Borla comes with a stud that needs a nut (or two) to connect.

IIR, it needs a 10mm nut.

I just installed my Borla exhaust tonight and thought I’d pass along a few tips. First, thanks to everyone who posted tips earlier. They proved invaluable.

Total installation time was right at two hours. At least 3/4ths of that time was the removal of the old exhaust. Borla did a great job with their kit, which makes the install a piece of cake. We placed the back of the car up on jack stands, which gave us enough room to work.

1) Disconnect the spring nuts at the cat/pipe junction and remove the two bolted on clamps on the pipe.
2) Remove the left exhaust finisher and disconnect the ground wire.
3) Disconnect the exhaust from the four rubber rings nearest the exhaust, then the final one in front of the muffler. We found that the easiest way to do this was with a little Dawn dish soap and warm water in a spray bottle.
4) Next, remove the old exhaust. We had to jack the right rear up a little higher in order to feed the tip through the right finisher.
5) We installed the Borla muffler and tips first. A little more soap and water helped here.
6) We then installed the left exhaust finisher and attached the ground wire. You will need an M6 1.0 nut for this.
7) Finally, install the new pipe and tighten down the clamps that hold the pipe and the right tip to the muffler.

I think that covers it all. If anyone has any questions, post them or feel free to PM me.

The sound and look are both great.

Does the sound of the Borla Exhaust differ from the stock exhausts?
I wouldnt want a noisy rumbling noise from typical street racer type cars....

Under acceleration the exhaust is a bit louder and deeper, but under normal driving conditions it isn't annoying at all.

If anyone in So Cal wants to hear the Borla on the 8 head over to Mazda in Thousand Oaks Auto Mall. I'm down here on vacation and I stopped by to test drive it. Borla is nice, no annoying droning at highway speeds, and it only gets "loud"when you get on it. It has a very nice tone. Couldn't feel any difference in performance, but then again I just got my own 8 and haven't really driven it much

Borla vendors

Who else is selling the Borla catback? From the vendors section, I've noticed that only RX8Store and Boost Solutions carries it. I'm curious why Vivid no longer sells them, as they offered them at the cheapest rate (i remember somewhere around the neighborhood of $550 shipped...but that was a while ago).

I've searched and haven't come up with any other companies that carry the Borla. Are there any other options? Or is $570 before shipping the best deal right now? Thanks.

I think that is about the best deal your lookin at. I got mine at Goodwin Racing and they are at $569 before shipping. Not a bad price considering some sell it in upwards of 640-660. Look around though...don't take my word for it.

Definitely...It might be a few weeks til i actually place an order as i'll be checking with Rolen Imports, and other possible options.

Also, the Racing Beat has piqued my interest a bit..so i'm gonna await the sound clip before i rule them out.
