Honestly, as far as dimensions, etc. go, it's an exact copy of the Exotic header. I would doubt it would perform any differently, the only thing I could see that wasn't as 'polished' about the BB header was it obviously, isn't polished, and the pipes in the collector arn't as clean

exacly, cant judge a header just because its not polished.

As for the 3 pipes going into the collector, they drag it out real nice on the bb header, as for the rb, yeah, it seems to be cutting it alittle too short.

and when I say apposed to obx, their o2 sensor isnt on the collector, it always needs to be on the collector.

to comment on "quality doesn't appear to be there" does not make much sense to me on this particular performance product...

maybe craftsmanship. but even the RB unit as seen IN PERSON at 7stock, may have just been the best example out of the batch. and even that, i'd still "clean" it up before it is gonna be installed.

i'm sorry to disagree. i too practice "u get what u paid for", but have also picked up $60 replica CNC'd pulleys. and i know they function the same and produced in the same manner as the original, minus the name badge.
so paying a premium for the same isn't a healthy exercise either. just my 2 bits...

on terms of craftsmanship, it does look like it needs mild attention on cleaning up internally. but i'm ****, so i'd clean up both the RB unit's internal and this one to a polish before it goes in... so can't really justify paying more for the same thing here either

the RB unit is nice and polished, and u get it in a beautiful form. so there's the quality.

but for me, its just gonna be hidden, coated, heat-shielded and wrapped, so as long as they both use quality stainless steel is all matter to me.

HKSPOwered: i've tried searching, and found not one single pic of the oem manifold out of the heatshield... and according to to kid in the RB booth at 7stock, the oem is SS too which is hard to believe. so if u do get a chance to take a picture of the oem manifold out of the heatshield...i'd greatly appreciate it for a comparison to this header u got.

a nice feature on the RB unit is that they welded a spike in the collector where the pipes meet. the BB unit may not have this and needs some cleaning instead... but if this spike EVER comes off, the cat is gonna be toast. (if u run one)

so hurry and put it on and tell us if it hits anything.

quality i speak isn't just outward appearance. i had the re-amemiya header and the internal, especially the collector, was amazing.

well, ive decided to just wait untill I get the whole system before I start installing it, and the only camera I have is on my phone, and that would just destort most of the sound and quality.

So it will be about 2 more weeks guys.

u took me vvrong buddy... something is missing in translation i guess. i thought this is comparing directly to the RB unit.

seen ur car in person at 7stock, and ur turbo'd currently yes?
so thats the reason you HAD the amemiya unit i guess...
u've got the VIP parking... and ur car looks very nice. i had some good opinions about ur ride, and some bad as well. nothing too harsh, just that underhood looks a bit busy. structural criticism if u'll take it. and i understand its tedious work to tidy up everything...but it seems like a car that belongs to someone who puts their time and effort, soo...

well... isn't OBX just the same identical copy of the amemiya, but just less craftsmanship, as it was compared prior? but i've heard they upp'd their quality control by some member users that used their unit...better craftsmanship now, and better news for those that like amemiya, and a fraction of the price...
but i'm sure those high end dollars for the amemiya equals to hand-built crafsmanship, inside and out. i can't disagree there if thats ur point.

but... this BB unit, for $200, there's nothing to lose if u got some time and tools to clean up some manufacture slab, no? may not be the best out there to bolt on and go, thats my point. and i like how they stick the o2 bung in the collector as opposed to rear rotor pipe...

just to clear up some confusion if there is any. and i think the OP may have chose something i'd personally like to look into, and what an attractive price it is isn't it?
there'll always be extra work, but i don't mind it.

cheers,
tm

when you guys talk about "craftmanship", do you guys mean things like...the design, the welds and/or the materials used?
Its seems to me that if most of the headers are exactly the same, you're just paying the name brand. Sort of like getting the same cereal, but it's in a bag instead of a box...You're still going to eat it. LOL. Hope that made sense.

^^ at least thats my definition of it, yes.

its not like they are using second grade metals... maybe not polished, and maybe it isn't cleaned up real nice inside...

but this is like copying CDs here. and cleaning it up is like getting a clean file for a nicer sound quality.

hope i made some sense myself there...

header: by design

i'm no exhaust expert, first... so any correction appreciated

from the pictures,

BB unit: is an "baffle collector" design by its collector characteristics
RB unit: is an "merge type collector" design...

it seems that my interest in this is that although this(BB) isn't the best, its more suited to my uses...

BB has characteristics that may make it seem like a pulse tuning is its uses for this type of header...

the RB on the other hand, similar to amemiya but slightly different, uses inertia tuning and gas momentum to achieve its povverband.

the BB primaries terminate abruptly into a collector... may be useful for mid range and RB having primaries blended into each other may seem like its used for maximum -effort race engines having a narrovv bracket to use its povver range, similar to amemiya.

i like this(BB) as MOST of my driving are on the street and i haven't raced any high speed tracks yet!

i've searched, and an old FS post turns up vvith the member believing of some moderate mid-range... and i totally buy into it. (the old for sale post has long ended, mind you)

this unit may be more suited for a nice boost in everyday drive, and the RB may seem to lose torque but shine being held at the top of the rev range at the track.

i'm looking more into the BB unit, as i think i'd appreciate the mild mid range boost, and vvork on just coating this unit to keep underhood temps dovvn if its ever gonna see track use. though i'm leaning to that the RB is gonna be better unit for sole track use.

hope my info is helpful. and though not everybody puts on parts that compliment each other... it doesn't hurt to do some reading on it so you can feel better that ur at least doing some homevvork. i just don't do much of it on here, or on the computer... so, sorry for my odd requests if i ask for oem manifold pics... detailed pics...etc. not very computer savvy as u can see

=)

p.s. there are other kinds... like venturi merge
and split interference(similar to my oem honda tri-Y manifold) i just haven't seen any examples in here...maybe because its useless on a rotary???

unless the car in question is a purpose built no holds barred money hole(in which case it would be custom anyway), all of the headers availible only serve one purpose... thats to turn them around and use them as a basis for a front mount turbo. and some of them i would doubt the quality of for doing that.

and my car isn't that...so my interest are focused on cost, functionality, and true usage.

thanks for ur input... i'm not one to throvv out my money, so its probably gonna be stock unless it just gets so cheap that i can't pass on

understand that for me personally, i would have to have most all other basic bolt-ons before i would consider this. its kinda like how i view light fly and clutch.. waste of time and money unless you're already their to change it anyway. except theres never a reason to "already be there" with the manifold lol

I just bought the header. I'll be doing a video of my stock exhaust sound, then one with the header installed. I will be running completely stock exhaust except for this header. It should be here this week. I do plan on getting ceramic coated so it will most likely be a week or two before I get it on.

Stay tuned.

Okay. I think it looks terrible. Lots of quality issues, inside and out. I would stick with stock or buy quality. Even the best stuff does very little without tuning though.

Regardless of external design, i'd be questioning material. You need a quality metal to withstand and transfer the EXTREME exhaust temps from a rotary. I wouldn't be surprised if it cracked relatively shortly. You don't engineer for price, you engineer for purpose.

What kind of quality issues. The only thing I see is that it's not ceramic/polished. If thats the case, get some header wraps.

has anyone even dyno'd an 8 with any aftermarket header to show that it even gives any gains?

i dont think there are mininmal if so. it just mostly changes the sound.

i remember when headers first came out they were like 1k. and gains were like 1-2 hp
