Ah I see that they do come with a bung on them... Ray if that's how they are made I don't need you to install a second, I just need one for WBO2 sensor

If we offer a catted version and the chosen cat does not last long, at all, we have pretty much turned a really cool midpipe into a piece of junk.

Since 99% of all our driving involves closed-loop, it really won't matter if one runs a factory tune or an MM tune.
Any thoughts on how far along that option might be (weeks/months?)

I don't mind waiting a bit for a solid midpipe with a cat... would mean a lot less headaches up here as they're pretty strict on roadside tests.

I thought you could just remove the rear o2 sensor... won't it throw a CEL anyway? Then I can just clear it with my AP

Who knows, some people might want a CEL to cover up when they leave their gas cap loose.

I guess getting a midpipe and cat separate is an option. But have no idea who would combine them for me, so I guess the patience route awaits. I appreciate the fact that you won't just release something untested to earn the quick money though.

Exactly. And apparently one of the good shops here will only do completely custom stuff or stock stuff, not parts I bring them.

But I guess I'll ask around a bit, shouldn't be that difficult for anyone that knows their stuff like you say. I'm sure you guys could even give some quick pointers to them in case something was out of the ordinary.

I am pretty sure your pipe and a HJS would be bulletproof. But also so pricey that it would have to be.

Ray will be running the pipe during a road trip this weekend and then I'll be running it afterwards on my own RX8. I put between 300 and 350 miles a week on my RX8 so I'm hoping to have a verdict within a reasonable time frame.

I'll be putting myself on hold for the catted version too... just for the piece of mind, things are pretty strict up here

To clarify, is one of your criteria for your catted version to be good enough to pass emissions or would the cat not be good enough for this? If it doesn't actually pass emissions, would it still smell as bad as the catless or would it be less detectable?

You would have to find out if any of the first 7 people have the HKS, and that would still just be the prototype.

In general though, we have found that the pipe does not change the sound of any cat-back much, just making it slightly deeper and slightly louder, still keeping the core sound of the catback.

We are simply not able to test every single cat-back exhaust with this mid-pipe but I highly doubt anyone is going to be disappointed in the sound. The resonator allows the unique sounds of each cat-back to be heard where as previously the midpipe translated so much engine noise that almost all cat-back exhausts sounded the same.

Marc,

The hope is to actually see if the catted version will pass emissions with a sniffer test. Nothing is for sure at this moment but I'm hoping the team can reach out to local contacts and find a shop or emissions site that we can utilize to have the car tested. I'm unsure what the state regulations are for cars that are still tagged but fail emissions would be. So, that being said I don't want to get myself into a situation where I have to deal with that nonsense.

I talked with Ray the other evening about this and it doesn't make much sense for us to offer a catted version unless we know that it will pass some kind of emissions standards. We can't account for everything but if it passes here in Arizona then that's enough for us to have confidence in it. Right now the question is will it last with the high EGT's and the massive amounts of oil that I run in my car.

Excellent, that's what I like to hear. I would love to see some of the results of the e-tests once you settle on a cat so that everyone can compare with their local requirements.

Yes
I don't care as much about the tests ( I can swap the stock pipe on for that) as I care about not getting harassed by the PD.
