My old pipe was not a BHR pipe. It was an rx7store one. It developed a nasty buzz around 3500-4500 rpms(yeah, worst possible spot) and after awhile, it developed an exhaust leak because the bolts had to be re-tightened. Rather than re-tighten them, i just took it off because i don't like the buzzy sound, and i wanted to see how bad my gas mileage had gotten, since i'm now getting 18.5 w/ the midpipe and MM tune, down from 20, and have noticed the car seems less peppy. I'm scared of what the gas mileage will be like with no tuning and with a cat. I'm expecting somewhere around 15

I took the pipe off, de-tuned the engine, and will drive it like this for a couple weeks before bringing it to the dealer to have them look at it/take a compression test/decarb. i'll be really bummed if my engine is low on compression, since i premixed since 15k miles, changed my oil religiously at 3k, and only put shell premium gas in it. coils and plugs were changed at ~22k miles, and it now has 33k miles.

Mine dropped from 20 to about 18.5 but it is because they switched gas around here to 10% ethanol. Did they do that there as well?

You will be stopping enough for gas that you'll have plenty of bathroom breaks. I'm not saying this in jest. One month ago, I spent 18 hrs straight driving the car.
