Have had my coils installed for about a week now. Just some things i've noticed

- The engine really does sound different.
- It's hard to decipher between the ports opening up in 1st-2nd gear because it happens so much more quickly and smoothly.
- I run a scangauge all the time, on average it showed about 23-24mpg, which is closer to 20mpg corrected. After the BHR kit, i've seen as high as 27.3mpg, and i definitely don't drive any slower, haha!
- Starting in 2nd gear and holding second gear at say 10mph is significantly easier. Just generally cruising around in lower RPM's is easier, doesn't feel like the engine lugs very much.
- My exhaust tips are now mostly brown soot instead of pure black.
- I feel like a ******* rockstar, and so should everyone else with the kit.

Then you need to calibrate the ScanGauge. It is accurate once calibrated.

Installed the coils tonight. The difference in power and engine smoothness is night and day. Install took about an hour, and was kinda annoying, but that's because of the engine bay being so cramped. The power difference is probably due to the wires being 40k old and the coils being 20k old. Still, I can't remember it pulling like this above 6k. Thanks, BHR! Next up is adjusting the tune on my AP...

Double check that all the connections are tight and that you plugged everything in the right order.

Also, scan your CEL.

My car feels so freaking awesome it's not funny. It just wants to keep revving, I can't remember the last time it's felt like this.

After a lengthy install, the car is running so much better. Fuel economy, mid-range torque, high end power, and idle have all improved. My P0420 CEL has turned off and remained off as well, and the WOT sound with the BHR midpipe screams bloody murder. I have been redlining it to and from work non stop and I still seem to be burning less fuel than before.

This is really the first thing I should have bought when I got the car and if I had to pick one mod to live with for the life of the car, this would be it.. or the midpipe I can't decide.

Thanks to everyone at BHR for their hard work developing these products. I look forward to what comes next

I highly suspect you were having this problem before you BHR coil kit install.
Guarantee this is a unrelated problem.

will it be safe, especially at the lower rpm's with the BHR Coils ?

I usually multiply by a bit less, like 1.4 ... it should be okay tho

ok do I'll try it. I was only worried about the high numbers at the lower rpm (< 4000) and higher (>13) volt range. I drive most from 2500 - 4000 rpm when cruising through the city or highway.

So I hope this will be ok in the long run.

This table is more conservative than what TeamRX8 used. MM simply took a ratio of the dwell rating vs stock (~5 ms / 3 ms @~13V) and applied it everywhere to the stock table. Oltman (and perhaps others) found that the table value / 256 = msec of dwell. The 5 msec value however, is only "good" @14V. Lower input voltage takes more time to charge the coil, hence the dwell @ 12V is longer. Likewise, it's shorter @ 16V. The data sheet for the coils lays out what the dwell times should be. Taking the msec numbers from the data sheets x 256 gives the table values. The dwell time used however is lower at high rpm than the nominal 5 msec spec. Why? First, a less powerful spark is needed at high rpm. Second, power is being drawn through the small wires of the 13V electrical system and being dissapated in heat (and spark) in the coils. If you calculate the time between sparkplug firings for a given rpm, you don't want to the coils charging for more than ~50% of that time. For example, with 12.75v at 7000 rpm, Oltman has a dwell of 3.8 msec, not 5, because the time between firings is 8.5 msec. I suspect that the stock dwell map values are so low at the higher rpm because the stock coils can't handle the generated heat.

I'll note that Olddragger has some concerns about the increased current being drawn through the stock wiring harness. I've not personally noticed any problems.

That's what I think I know from thread archeology - others may disagree.

You'll note the Oltman's table is lower than (stock x 1.45) in places too. If you want to take the lowest of the x1.45 and Oltman values, that will be about a conservative as you can get on the safe side (but will be far from optimum).

installed mine about a week ago. smoother & it doesn't shake anymore in reverse, so =D now just to figure out this previous hesitation problem.. lol.

Got tired of reading all the good reviews and finally ordered one. Can't wait to see the difference as I still have the OEM coils with 40K+ miles.

I got mine yesterday along with a flying monkey. Hopefully I'll get it installed tomorrow.
Wasn't expecting the monkey, maybe part of the cosmetic upgrade lol. Anyways, how many HP does it add?

Received my kit last week along with the monkey. My coils definitely needed to be changed and these were the only way to go. I bought the car with 56k miles and I could not find any receipt in the package the previous owner gave me that had shown him changing the coils. After searching through this site because I was having repetitive rev drops during idle is what led me to the BHR ignition kit.

After I installed them I was worried that the L1 harness would rub against the serpentine belt but I was able to zip tie it out of the way. The wiring loom that runs along the OEM coil plate was also a pain to work around, even after bending the brackets down, but everything worked out.

All in all, I was so satisfied with the ignition kit that I just bought a BHR midpipe.

I just changed my coils - plugs and wires less than 3k miles ago... I ran into a great deal for a new BHR Ignition system.. I am now debating on changing my ignition system to BHR and just wait till new coils fail... Not really sure what I want to do
