Basic proven mods

I usually read up on a forum before buying a car, so im usually up to date on what works and what doesnt as far as modifications go, but i bought my RX-8 without any research after a test drive :D

I basically want to get up to date on what works on this car and the pros and cons of each.

1) Intake - Im guessing the short rams just suck up hot air like on any other car, but comes with a nice sound? How does a rotary sound with an intake anyways? Like stock but louder? Do CAI give good gains but with the drawback of having the filter so low to the ground (i.e. water in engine) ?

2) Exhaust - Do any of them give gains? Is there a preferred sound among all of them?

Are there any other small "must have" mods on this car?

I tried to find a thread similar to this one, but didnt come up with anything.

Thanks

keep looking.

1. Racing Beat setup does around 5 gain and sounds great.
2. " " but there are many other exhausts that sound great.

'Must have' imo would be lighter flywheel, upgrade clutch, high flow cat (midpipe) but idk how you are on keeping it factory to avoid void of warranty.

Also, a short shifter seems to be a great mod, but I haven't tried one myself but I do plan on getting one down the line.

The short answer is flywheel. Best bang for your buck. The long answer is buy every basic bolt on (no F/I) and get a good ECU tune. you might get a total of 15hp some have gotten more and some have gotten less.
