Question Any TWIN DISC clutch users out there?

I am interested to see if anyone is using a twin disc clutch in their RX-8.

Because multi-plate clutch systems include an aluminum flywheel in the assembly and typically on average have less rotating mass then a normal clutch and flywheel assembly.

^ nice add quote. But a twin disc is not not necessary really. Even with a FI setup my buddy Hoss-05 is running this:

I am also running a single plate system with my turbo setup.

I have ran quite a few in FD's however as stated earlier it is over kill for the 8. That being said multi plate clutches are the best choice for making big power as long as you can handle the rattle at idle.

Yes. Twin Disc sintered metallic 5.5" from Tilton. Great MOI. Have to launch the thing about 4,000 rpm and slip it a bit. But at 8,000 and slipping it from our standing starts in World Challenge you could cream all the FWD cars----until thier turbos or bigger torque numbers kicked in. I think I have a few spares (new) and some wicked light spare aluminum flywheels. Same for freshly rebuilt 2009+ trannies.

And you'll need a hydraulic throwout bearing which is a treat to have.

Carbonitic also makes a twin clutch set up and I know of one other who is running it (bought it for his 20b swap). On of the inherent benefits is you can run a smaller diameter disc for inertia reasons.

My carbon clutch kit is about the lightest "affordable" kit sold on the market but it has a low rated torque handling rate of "only" 300 ft lbs. It like the Tilton stuff Mr. Meyer runs will be paired with a 2009 transmission and should take one hell of a beating.

OS Giken offers several versions of 1, 2, and 3 discs for the RX-8, they are all 7.25" diameter if I recall

The clutch Eric mentioned is a race-only setup
