Any reason to do the RB reflash now if I intend to go FI in the future?

Any reason to do the RB reflash now if I intend to go FI in the future?

I was just curious if you can apply a reflashed ECU to a FI application down the line.

I may throw on an intake and an exhaust but for the most part I don't see myself tinkering much before I just go all out and SC this bad girl. (Yeah right!!) I do see myself becoming addicted soon to mods I just haven't picked the right ones out yet so I shall cling to the hope that I can avoid the mod bug bite.

Thanks in advance for any input on this.

As far as I understand you'll be able to control most (if not all) of the settings the RB reflash does through the EMU when you go FI.

I could be horribly wrong though.

Don't be wishy/washy make up your mind are you going FI or not? If your sure your going FI then wait to do anything to your ECU. If you use a piggy back system like an X, it will just override a RB flash. It could be that the Cobb reflash tool will materialize and again the RB flash is not used. If your not going FI then do as you wish. I understand the RB flash produces measurable differences, very small but measurable.

If your going s/c forget the intake - wait and see what will come out for the s/c 8s intake down the road.

Nothing like pleasant input from the long standing members of the forum. I'm actually surprised I didn't get flamed and told to "search the forum noob." I suppose I'll get a FW and call it a day until I spring for FI.

Anyway Yes I intend to FI in the future. No I don't intend to do it right away. Wasn't wishy washy just wanted opinions. I guess I worded my question poorly. I'd like to go with the AP from cobb as I'm very familiar with them from the scooby world and am comfortable with their products.

Well now that I know its a waste of effort to try and get power without FI, can you recommend a good series of mods to prep the car for FI?

I'm about to order some Protek R and I'm going to migrate the Tranny fluid over to synth stuff. I"ll look into brake lines and fluid. So how about after that? Any recommendations for a short shifter? Maybe cleanup some of the shifter slop? (Very little compared to the audi btw)

No, it's pointless as the RB flash adjusts the air/fuel ratio a bit to lean it out and gives you a bit of hp. When you go FI, you will need to get a fuel management system that will replace the RB tuning to something more necessary to FI'ing the car.

For the short throw shifter everybody has the axialflow unit. Which is great. www.axialflow.com.

If you are going to go FI down the road I would suggest you do the hi-flow catalytic, and cat back exhaust. You can retain those after you go FI. The cat back is more for better sound and a few hp.

If you do the intake & RB flash they will be wasted & useless later on when you go FI.

im skip the foreplay and go straight pipe.
I went supercat for a while and eventually dropped it in favor for the straight pipe.. While the sound was probably 'better' with a supercat, i figure the straight pipe is also more prep for FI.

Sorry if I offended but so many want instant gratification & power. Our choice of vehicles does not allow for this.

Not sure where your at (location) so I will give you some hints with the idea that you will be going to FI. Cooling should be your first concern, larger radiator, fan mods, etc. The axial flow shifter seems to be the favorite. Premix will be helpful but I see your already looking at that. Breaks but again your looking at that also. Exhaust changes really only help the sound, mid pipes cause cels, a high flow "super cat" is nice and while not gaining much from it sure give the 8 a better feel. Intakes will not gain you anything and depending on your choice of FI may a waist of money. Other bolt-ons are not going to help you and may even hinder your efforts.

Awesome stuff guys. Coolers all around after the fluids are swapped. I see RB is popular with the cooling products. I'll mosey on over there and check them out. Most of this is just good practice when buying a used car that you aren't sure how it was maintained by the last owner. Plus its all maint. in appearance so the wife will be all about it

PS I got almost 280 miles out of this tank of gas and that was with several bouts of pretty hard back road driving. Not too shabby. I'll break 300 if I can stay off the back roads...and keep my wife from behind the wheel Yeah right!!

Get the Mazmart water pump, you may not need to upgrade the radiator. Run a 70/30 blend of coolant and one bottle of water wetter.
Get real gauges, ours are dummies. RB has a set up and Lotek has a sweet apron type centerpod for the DIY
Upgrade your sparkplug wires and keep good coils and plugs.
Most(well a lot) run pre mix---do search!
Make sure your fuel pump is ok--no fuel starvation issues etc---again search
do the little hood mod to help with engine bay temps.
Dont do an intake--just buy a k/n replacement filter if you must.
light flywheel does change the car--you will like.
Buy valium and take one everytime you think about buying more stuff

Lol...Valium...got it. Well I'm gonna focus on keeping the car spit-spot and might add the LWFW.

All this input is great though. I shall keep the rivetted members posted of my exploits.

Oh I did my first mod this weekend. I took the dealer sticker off my car. WOOT!
