Agency Pulley Install = $250??

i was quoted $250 to install the agency underdrive pulley at rotary racing in santa ana, CA. Does this price sound right at all?? can anybody install this pulley for less?

i was just shocked that the installation cost more than the unit itself ($140).

I would assume you just take off some bolts, and then install the new ones. Shouldn't take even an hour to do...

i searched and found rotary racing is supposedly to be the most reputable and gives the most fair prices...

they told me that they would need to take off the radiator etc..and the whole thing would take 4 hours?!??.....for an...underdrive pulley ?

can someone be kind enough to point me to another place in LA?

Too bad, from what I read youcan do it with out removing the radatior.

Maybe they haven't done one on the 8. They everything about the Seven's.

Call them up again and ask them. Ask they what if they don't remove the rad, how will it cost then?

Anyhow, you should be able to do it your self. Wost case is you need an air impact gun.

Ask us in the West coast forumn. We may be able to do it for a 100 or worse yet get a hold of the Miata club.
They hace tech days once a month and I bet you can get help from them too!

The AP Pulley DOES NOT require you to take anything off, but a 12mm and 14mm bolt that loosens the alternator pulley and it's belt, a 17mm and 10mm bolt that loosens the tensioner pulley for the a/c unit pulley and Four 10mm bolts that hold the pulley itself on. Install the AP pulley in reverse of removal and you have a new pulley put on in 30min. you may also have to remove the strut bar (six 14mm bolts) and/or the intake accordian tube (philips screwdriver) depending on how flexible you are. Paying anyone more than $50 to install this thing is NUTS!

Make a copy of the instructions and send them to Relable or tell them it is not necessary to remove the Rad.

The AP Pulley doesn't require you to remove the alternator pulley since the kit only includes the eccentric shaft pulley.

The UR kit, on the other hand, includes the alternator, eccentric and waterpump pullies which would require an impact gun to remove.

its a 40 min install in the driveway. did it and only removed the acordion tube. No probs
as said if anyone charges you over $50 it's a crime. Heck a fellow rx8 nut would prob do it for nothing.

I'd do it for free (ok, maybe I would charge lunch) if you were in the area.

yeah, its not hard, i had a little bit of difficulties.. on;y becuase the pully will fit on the wrong way, it can go on two ways.. one way is right, the other way, eve nthough it looks exactly the same, is very wrong, and when i caught that it was wrong, i stripped one of the bolts, so i had to wait till a shop was open the next day to pick up some moreof the same screws..if i were to do it again it would only take about 30-40min though....
it was my first time every doing a pully swap on anycar.
