Any good machine shop should be able to do it for you, but it won't be cheap.

why dont you do the cooling fan mod instead - people have said it really helps the AC.

Okay folks, I got a wild hair and put this thing on last night. Install went fine. About an hour from box opening to first crank with it on. No problems with the install, thanks to this thread. The only thing I would add is loosening the bottom 17mm bolt on the alternator to make the movement of it easier. Everything fits well, flush, lines up, etc. Things are great, looks good, no belt slip, about .20 inch of play in the belt tension. However (but of course) at idle, no drama dash is normal. Driving around and at speed (pick a speed) I have a flashing check engine light. What gives?? Do I have to reset something? Other that that, It runs like a bat out of hell. Thanks in advance.

Put your key in the ignition, turn to the on position (not starting the car), then step on the brake pedal 20 times really fast. Keep your eye on the oil gauge, and when it goes right and then back left, your done.

This will reset your computer's shaft calibration and will allow it to re-calibrate itself to the new pulley. This happens on some cars.

if that doesnt do it, try unplugging battery then doing that... that's what I ended up having to do.

FYI - I did the brake pedal reset which seemed to work until I got on it getting up to highway speeds (honest officer). Same flashing CEL. I made a phone call to a friend that suggested the battery disconnect also. Got home, disconnected the battery and let it sit during dinner. I reconnected, did all the brake, steering wheel, and ODO resets, tightened the belts a little more and all is good. Thanks everyone for your help. Now on to Scott's cooling mod.....

I havnt done it on AT or heard about it being done, but I assume the CEL would come on for the same reason, but should be able to fix the same way so it isnt a problem.

i had my AP pulley installed a few weeks ago and did get a CEL after i hit 6k rpm when reving to test it out post-installation. clearing NVRAM and KRAM didn't work so i had to disconnect the battery and the CEL hasn't returned.

after a few autoxs with it (and RB intake + duct) i can attest that 1st gear and the middle of 2nd gear is definitely more zippy which is quite a welcome change. =)

What's the deal here. I installed in, took forever to get the ac belt on but the alternator slipped right on. There was a great deal of play in the alt belt but went away once I started it and after much high pitched squeaking and squealing. Are the belts not lined up right or something? Also, have a flashing cel then a constant one. BUt, its just the computer not the actual engine right guys? I did the brake thing and it cleared it i think. But right when I start driving, the squeak eventually goes away, and a cel came on. Im gonn go try and line up belts more.

For the sqeaking and squealing it may be that the belt is not tight enough and is slipping. For the cel, the light shouldn't come on with just the pullies unless you have a midpipe.

yeah, its just the computer.

make sure that when the engine is on the pulley isn't wobbling at all. There may be some dirt or debris behind the pulley causing an incorrect alignment. If it isn't wobbling in place then I wouldnt worry about it.

Make sure the belts are tight and if there is squeaking tighten the belts. There should be no more than 1/2 an inch of play when you try and pull on the belt when it is in place.

If the squeak is fixed then just leave your neg battery terminal unplugged for the night and the cel should reset itself, just do the 20x brake pedal pump and the ODO holddown reset when you restart it.

^^^ Thanks, the squeak went away after a day or so and also when it was squeaking it stopped quickly after the engine started to warm up. The belt has also gotten much tighter and is now is good and tight like the a/c belt. Unfortunatly, I shredded the small bolt below the long 3-4 inch screw for the alternator. Gonna have to get Mazda to order that. BUT, I am very pleased with the results. Once the belt tightened up, my butt felt a difference, mainly in the 4-5.5 region, which is exactly what I wanted. I want as much of that low end beefed up as possible. Revs quicker but I haven't noticed a huge difference. Just installed the axial flow ss too. The two go great together.

Hey guys I am considering getting these pulleys but I have one concern... To reset the computer I would have to unplug the battery for a while which would be fine except that when my computer looses power I have to tow it back to mazda to get my security keys reprogrammed (I have an 05). Is there any way around this? I am asking because I was helping a friend put on some mods on my car before and when we hooked the battery back up to the car all the lights would come on but would not crank. Thats when I found out from my dealer that they have to reprogram everything. Thank god mazda roadside assistance is free..

If you are carefull not to dislodge the crank angle plate you will not need to reset the ECU .
If you do dislodge it there is a proceedure to reset without disconnecting the batt.
Can't remember exactly what it is - search "ECU reset" .

Just installed pulleys last night and I got the cel... I did the ecu reset and then tried iit aftrer disconnecting the battery... still getting a cel..... how do you do the odo reset? Also once I'm done pumping the brakes do I just turn off the car and start it or what? Thanks in advance
