I took a new MX-5 for a test drive and put about 100 miles on one. The mountians around here are a blast in that little beast. It had alot of power for that little gocart. I loved it almost as much at the 8 but the room inside it was just too small for me. Oh well can wait to get it another go on saturday....c ya'll there if I can make it.

I already have a two hour drive so getting up at 8 a.m. is pushing it for me anyway. So I'll see everyone at or before 11. My girlfriend's coming with me so she can hopefully ride along and take some pics with her digital camera.
See you all in the morning!

AWESOME! Now where else can you go and drive the **** out of cars for free? zed28eh's heads up on getting there early was perfect to set the day up. WhiteTop and I got there around 8:30 and starkey was already there. We were amongst the first 25 people there. We drove the Miatas on the autocross course, hopped out and got back in the short line of about 12 people to do it again. It was great. Don't let anyone ever tell you that this is not fun. Later cardoc01 walked up and recogonized my shirt and cap and introduced himself, then we just tooled around driving, talking and even went and sat down for a while up in the AMS stands and watched some of the big guys run the real track. I think we have decided we are a bunch of kids. cardoc01 showed us his HUD in his 8 which is an interesting addition. I would like to see more on this sometime.
I took some images (as usual) and will be posting them later this evening. Right now I'm going to go get me a beer and relax.
Don't ever buy a used car from Mazda that they say was used only on weekends! These puppies were rode hard! MANY spin-outs, 180's and 360's. This was more fun than autocross because you didn't have to wait all day, work the course or pay any money. We also got a free tee shirt.
One guy working the Miata track was the driver of the Speedsource Silver RX8 from the Barber Race we attended so we talked about Grand American Racing and how he drove the Barber track.
This was a lot of fun guys and you should do this at least once.
Starkey, WhiteTop and cardoc01, I really enjoyed the event. Oh, and derwankel, sorry I missed you. I have the card you left on my window and I will get in touch with you?
EDIT:
CrabApple-Ti, Glyphon, mike1324a, 9G Redlinek, Spyder doo & fullsmoke, sorry I missed you guys. We left about 3:30.

As much as I hate to admit it, the Miata's were much more fun to drive on the autocross tracks than the 8's! I drifted today with control and because I could go back and do it again I learned a lot about how to go faster without drifting. Too much fun! I didn't expect to be allowed to push these cars like we did. As long as you didn't do stupid stuff and loose control, they let you do your thing. The best time I could muster was 47.5. The best time of the day, while we were there, was 41 something. This guy was great on the track and was consistant. He is an autocrosser and knew what he was doing.
Now cardoc01 doesn't know good manners and how to treat his elders because he got in the Miata, just one time, and posted a 45 something. SHOWOFF! I was impressed Mark!

I was really surprised at how well they handled and how much fun they were to drive. Maybe it's because I've never done anything like this before....but they were still fun. Check out me on the previous page in the maroon Miata, fun times!
I loved the Mx-5s, it'll probably be the next car I buy. Besides, you can always make it faster and more nible . I must have done 8+ laps in the Mx-5 and on my 3rd run I made a 44.017. This was my first time every auto-crossing or driving the new Mx-5. After that I kept getting cars with no tread left on the tires but I was able to staying in the 44 sec. range.
OH! Did you all know that the guy announcing for the Performace Driving with the Mx-5 was also the Grand Am Cup SpeedSource Rx-8 driver a little while back? Or that's what he told me. I talked to him for about 1 minutes while I waited for my next turn to drive came around.
I also got the car from derwankel on my 8. I really wish I could've actually met some of you guys. I tried to meantion that I drove an 8 as much as I could without seeming like I was bragging in hopes of someone from the forum talking to me. Oh well, maybe next time. I wish I could join everyone for the picture next Saturday, but I have to work.
If anyone in the Central GA area knows where there may be auto-cross nearby let me know. I've found my new hobby, LOL. At least I'd love to get with some 8ers in this area and chill sometime or something.
So let me know and I'll talk with you all sometime.

Sorry I missed you guys too ... I was a walking billboard for the 8 ... RX-8 hat, black zoom-zoom t-shirt with the red RX-8 on the back, red shorts ..
It was a good time to be sure. Yeah ... left calling cards on all the 8s I could ... just to say hey.
By the way, that was my VR sitting next to the Miata club just as you exited with your goodie bag.
Maybe see some of you this Saturday

You know, it's amazing we did not find each other. I was wearing a black GA RX8 Club cap and a white long sleeve shirt with SilverEIGHTStudio.com across the back and logo on front. Starkey had on a tan GA RX8 Club cap. We were in the same lines repeatedly at the Miata track. I'm really sorry we did not hook up.
derwankel, I looked your car over and took a pic of it. At least I think this is the one you are talking about. It was hard to miss as it was up front as you walk in.

To any of you that have performed mods to your RX-8 ---
Could you tell any difference when driving their stock RX-8's ?
Sounds like fun was had by all. Surprised to see so many wearing shorts though......

Hi rxeightr, I think my perception that the RX8 was sluggish compared to the Miata and that the Miata was more fun to drive may be influenced by the fact that my RB Sway Bars in my car make mine feel much tighter in the turns and the 8 that I drove at ZoomZoom without after markets. I would like to have driven my car on the course for a comparison. Also, I didn't turn the DSC off to see how the 8 handle compared to the Miata so it really wasn't a fair comparison I guess.
