What is up with Atlanta People?
OK, in the last two days i have seen four other RX-8 drivers in the past two days! Two were driving on I-75 going north. The other two were just cruising around town.
Anyways that isnt my point... my point is what is wrong with you other 8 drivers in atlanta? Whenever I see another 8 I either pull up next to them to admire their fine peice of machinery and pristine taste in cars or atleast wave to them. Well all four drivers did not wave or even look at me or anything. Im like wth? Ive never been given the cold shoulder before from another RX-8 driver. When I drive a mini cooper and pass another I always have gotten a honk or a wave and smile. I know not everyone is like this and some of you out there share in my loving 8 community, but common, people need to start lightening up a bit and having fun...
For the record I live on the southside of Atlanta and drive a Titanium RX-8 w/ Borla. I saw one silver 8 on 75 north around westpaces on saterday who was with a girl (so was I) but didnt wave or smile or anything. Another 8 I saw this morning (monday) was blue and also on 75 north passing around Morrow/Old Dixie exits who also didnt give me love. The other two were both black and I was passing them, but they were not ont he highway and prolly didnt get much time to notice me waving/honking/smiling/stalking them...lol

Just today I waved at another black 8. Nothing in return.
But I have had about 50/50 luck overall. I find that folks are real eager to chat if you catch them in a parking lot, but on the road is a different story.
On a side note, I just bought a corvette for around 3500. It looked like crap (been sitting a year) and I still got waves from vette owners on the road.

For a lot of people, it's just a new car - a way to get from Poiint A to Point B and back again. When I'm in my RX-7, the majority of other RX-7 owners (any generation) wave back. I've yet to have an RX-8 owner wave back at me. They just aren't enthusiasts. There's nothing wrong with that.

Eh, I've never got a wave back from N. GA. (Rome) to Chattanooga
I feel stupid for waving... but then again, I like my car, and it's not just a vehicle to me. I am so happy to see others enjoying and just assume they feel the same. :D

I live in the Vinings and drive a Ti Gr 8 also, and if you're ever in the area, I'll wave back! But I do second your emotion that not too many 8's wave back. I have gotten acknowledgments from a few, but, for example, when I was in Athens this past weekend, I saw more 8's in one day than I ever had in my life and didn't get much love. I think part of it had to do with the fact that they were groups of girls in the car, though. I don't take it too personally b/c I get plenty of attention from non-8 drivers and onlookers.

I think I've always gotten a wave or thumbs up from other rx8 owners.
The other day I was stuck in a line of cars in the left hand lane on N Druid Hills behind someone wanting to make a left hand turn. There was a continious line of traffic in the right hand lane and I couldn't pull out to go around. Then someone was nice enought to stop and honk to let me over. It was another 8. It was like getting special privileges . When he passed and waved, I noticed he still had temp tags. Welcome new rx8 owner.
Wahoo!
edit: I always seem to spell better hours after I've written something, heh.

Well, I think it's like this: Are you an Atlanta native, and have you spent a lot of time recently in some other city (not counting LA)?
Look around you in Atlanta at the high percentage of higher-end cars on the road, both European and Japanese. People are blasé because they're accustomed to having/seeing a certain 'grade' of car. The support network for cars reflects this, what's exotic elsewhere is common in ATL. Right now I can name 5 really good aftermarket BMW shops just in the northeast quadrant of the Perimeter alone... There's not a whole hell of a lot that I *haven't* seen around Atlanta. I think I'm permanently jaded after seeing a Bitter SC on Johnson Ferry three times - of all the cars I never expected to see in the US, that would probably top the list. Up to a couple of years ago, you could still occasionally come across one of two LaForza SUVs at Perimeter Mall. How about the 2001 Nissan Patrol with Moroccan registration plates in Sandy Springs? Or the occasional Citroen CX25, GS or XM? In Hotlanta, the 8 is just one more Mazda that Jim Ellis and other dealers push off the lot daily.
Contrast this to, say, Delaware... An 8 gets a lot of attention there because it's not an old Honda or Chevy; and by 'attention' I mean slack-jawed, vapid stares.
My impression is that you're bouncing around exuberantly going "I've got an RX-8, I've got an RX-8", and don't get why other 8 drivers are glancing around going "...umm.... yeah?....."
<Shania_Twain>So, you've got a car... That don't impress me much, ooo-ooo-oo-oooo...</Shania_Twain> :D

Well, for me.. it's not having the most expensive, or the best label... it's having the only rotary in production! I think this car is an engineering marvel :D
It's been a blast figuring the specs out on this baby! SURELY others feel 'that' excitement and not just because of the name
:p

I live in/near Decatur (Clairmont, Lavista, N. Druid Hills area). I'm running about 60/40 - getting lights flashed or a wave more than not - them first! I always wave back... of course.
By the way, it wasn't me in the new 8 with temp tags.

I have always acknowledged and talked to all rotory owners whether they are in a 12a first gen all the way to fd....Take for instance, while alot more of my time is spent on serx7 club chats, whether you spend time with Tim, Holly, David or any one else ine the Atl area, We are a family of sorts....I am no better than the guy in the first gen with flares and a bridgeport than the fd owner w/bpu's. Sorry for the rant, but if you dismiss people based on their economic status or by what they drive you miss an opportunity to meet some amazing people....This is just rambling from someone that feels lucky to have had a chance to be around the rx7/8 community for 8yrs

BTW, Yesterday at Sam's Club I was wedging a big pkg of paper towels in the trunk .. I heard the sweet sound of a rotary behind me.. I turned around when she said, "Nice Car!" and saw her beautiful silver 8, and said to her, "Nice Car."
What fun.

I will wave
I am in Atlanta in my Velocity Red '04. I live right across from Lenox Mall and I see maybe 4 8's in a month (aside from those at work.... I work for Mazda). If you see a Red one From 75/85 split to Delk Rd on 75N or going the other way at night its probably me. I have NEVER seen another in traffic. Pull up and wave or something. I did see a Titanium sitting at the Lenox/Buford light with what looked like an RX8 Club sticker, I honked, hope you heard it!

Yeah no racing in Cobb County... they have those new Marauder pursuit cars, baaaaaaad to run from. Not that I would run but even if we thought about it they would catch us.
BTW since you mentioned racing... the other morning a 350 and some type of Porsche passed me in relatively heavy traffic upwards of 110 mph. Traffic was moving at about 80, as it usually does here, and they were rolling past everyone. I called Cobb County and they were VERY willing to come find them. I am all about stretching my 8's legs sometimes but Morning traffic is NOT the place to do it. So please be responsible in where you choose to clean the exaust out.
Sorry for the Dad-like post, back to being a young guy with a sports car.

Yea, man. I watch alot of "Cops". Those hi-speeds NEVER work out right.
I'm not worried about hurting me so much as wrecking my baby.
I'll bet we can out carve those Crown Vick land yachts though...hmmm.

I'm downtown on North Ave.
I've seen more than most here seem to have experienced. Just today on Ponce, I passed a titanium. When he pulled up next to me at the light, he laughed about noticing the familiar hum before he saw what kind of car was next to him.
Within a couple blocks from my place I've seen a few "regulars." There is a titanium that's frequently at GT and there are two more that I always see parked in the Coca Cola building's lot. I can't help but keep an eye out for them. I love seeing other 8's, but I have a bad habit of mumbling "nemesis" every time I see a 350z. :D
So far I've only been snubbed once. I was in traffic with another titanium by Centenial Park. If you were that guy, you need to wash your rims. :p
