there are a couple pics earlier in the thread, from when he was at Daytona. It has...umm.. changed a lot. IMO, the stripes are a bit much, and kind of take away from the sleeper look that he had going. But it is his car.

Great shots guys.....how did the races there go? I know Jim was hoping someone would get below 59s this time for the big boys. I checked the site, didn't see the results yet.

TA, how did the Evos do?

TA2, what mods did you do to your car, besides new tires? I am looking at a 99 Cobra for my short-term track car need. I was thinking of leaving it pretty stock with some spring rate adjustments, and some camber plates. Love to hear your thoughts?

BTW, MD, looooove the look of the Z. I would get in MUCH trouble with that thing.

STF, gone but not forgotten. +

Day 2 at The Rock

Well race fans, it was quite a day! After a very restful night at the Homewood Suites in Pinehurst courtesy of MoodDude and a filling free breakfast of eggs, bacon, sausage it was time to go hit the track. We rolled into The Rock at about 7:15 and immediately felt a cold light rain. That rain intensified during the drivers meeting and it looked like we would be getting some wet track time. Indeed it stayed wet all day although by 3:30 pm the banking had a dry line butt the infield remained wet. At midday there were huge puddles everywhere (other than the banking - doh!)
Anyway, I digress...

I was out first on track in HPDE4. Having never been at The Rock in the rain, I was cautious with DSC on for good measure. I took it all much slower and had no trouble. It was a great learning experience as smoothness becomes even more important. In session 2, I turned off DSC and got carried away accelerating out of the fish hook. I did the usual TA spin. No harm/no foul. My next lap around I entered the fish hook with just a tad too much speed and executed a drift that would make Tarzan Yamada proud. I basically rounded the corner completely sideways and got it straightened up just past the apex. This time I was easy on the gas so I wouldn't do something stupid and spin! The rest of my sessions were great. I learned a lot as usual and had a blast doing it. HPDE4 had 5 sessions which I did. I also went out in 2 HPDE3 sessions because I felt I wasn't getting enough track time between me and my 2 students. My HPDE1 student drove all his 5 sessions with me. I signed off my HPDE2 student after his second session after we both felt comfortable with him driving solo in the rain. Again, the EVO is a wicked competent track car. It has gobs of power and just claws its way out of a corner. It does not like a heavy foot on the gas while mid corner. You need to be patient and feed in power gradually to avoid under steer.

So 13 sessions on track on Saturday and 14 on Sunday. I been a bad ho. What is bad is I am already thinking about the next track event.

I had a chance to hang out and do some lead follow with a guy I met this time last year at The Rock and have kept in touch with. He was a first time instructor this weekend. Unfortunately his student put her car into a safety barrel filled with sand. Bad news was she bent her radiator support and broke the JDM nose of her Integra Type R. Good news was she hit a barrel not the wall behind the barrel. He is trying to talk me into doing VIR in February with NASA mid Atlantic. Sounds tempting but NASA-SE schedule begins in February too with the possibility of either Barber or CMP.

I had a terrific weekend. I am exhausted and ready for bed. Lego took some great pics which I am sure he'll post when he can.

Peace out!

Your track ho.

How did the car feel with the stock rear sway this time in comparison to the previous Rock event? Thanks for the update and I look forward to the pics.

Awesome Weekend at the rock

As usual, a fantastic time was had by all. We enjoyed hanging out with all the old friends, made some new ones, and had a BALL on the track.

Honorable mentions:
- TA did really well as an instructor and put a good show out on the track

- Lego AKA Turkish Delight braved to elements to keep us all safe through pit traffic and blasting through turn 3

- Mood got promoted to HDPE 3 (Go Speed Racer Go)

- Ivan helped out in the pits and generally enjoyed himself so much I think he's getting a track car next year

- My car is now equipped with a Titanium Johnson Rod and handles like an SOB

- I now have a "mini video" in my mind about flying around the NASCAR banked corner at triple digits that will stay there forever!

Honestly, words don't describe how it felt to blast around that banked oval. That was some seriously exciting sh%%t

STF, I'll post details on the car later. I learned some good tech on Mustang suspension and I will gladly pass it on to you.

L8Apex, great pix from your friend. I'll have to get some. We can tell how much more stable the car now is on the pics, no more crazy pitch and yaw angles the thing "flat" moves (Pun intended)

About these race cars, the competition school was on track with us (In DE 3) so it was fun to play with them except for a few that were a bit dense about giving point by's

I got to go take a nap before getting up at 4:00 am for my flight out.

Take care Y'all

I don't think TA did any video this time. I hope he tells us differently. Maybe someone has footage from behind him.

How bad was it raining on Sunday? The times for TT were way off from last year. I ran in the 1:08s-1:10s with Falken Azenis in TTB. I figured I would be able to go 1:05's with the setup I had on the car and with the R's. I figured Jim Pantas would have been right with some of the Thunder/Lightning guys hittng the sub 1:00 mark, but it wasn't the case.

Hi everyone, I am back at home finally. Lego and I decided to spend the night at his wonderful parents house in North Carolina. His Mom filled us up with great after track food, and in the morning, she cooked us breakfast!
Lego and I then stopped at the BMW visitor center in Spartenburg, I want an F1 car! We got many funny looks with the Nissan in tow.

About the weekend - well on the first out, I corded my two front tires. Lucky for me, my friend Brad had supplied me with 4 Maxxis tires (street rain tires), and had those mounted. So I missed a seccion while my tires where mounted (no big deal). Then it was off to try to get some grip on dry pavement with street tires - man I missed my Cups! Yet, to my luck it rained on Sunday and I had the perfect tires on the car for it!

TA - always a pleasure to hang out with you, and glad you could stay at the Homeboy suites with us.
TA2 - nice work on your car. I wish they made that kit for the Z, yet with the double wish-bone front it would never work.
Lego - I loved riding with you in the car up to Rockingham, yet you got to stay awake on the ride home. And thanks to your parents for letting us stay at their home!
Brad - good to see my old friend again and thank god I got new tires from you! Otherwise I would have had to sit it out for the weekend.

And, yes I made it into HPDE 3, yet I will show up with some RA1s before than.

Pictures here are some - and Lego got the best ones, especially the Nascar sign with are cars in the picture at the same time.

Fun, fun, fun! I think it's great that we have 3 different type cars
all good friends and hanging together as a group. Most clubs are
pretty exclusive yet we open our arms to all. I love it. Great pics
Lego & MD. MD I love your face-lift, it's a fine looking machine and
congrats on graduating to DE3. TA2, are you staying stealth, maybe go
with a little ground effects? I was telling TA last night I expect to
see you running with the big boys in something like a Grand Am. TA,
you are a natural for instructing and I know you had a blast. I think
it's funny that after all the track time you still feel like you need
more track! You are seriously addicted! Time for the dedicated track
ho car.

Lego, Great shots. Silver, I'm not going to change much in terms of appearance.

I just love to fill-up the rearview mirrors of full-on race cars and expensive imports with a plain Jane stock looking inexpensive pony car then show 'em my taillights.

It's even better when they come up after the run and ask me what I have done under the hood.. (Nothing)

Ivan and I are having thoughts of building a white '78 Fairmont loaded with all the Fox body trick suspension parts and a monster motor.. (The Fairmont had the same chassis as the 79-93 Mustangs)

How much of an ego crusher would that be?

Stealth is highly entertaining for me.

ditto i like the sleeper look--people that are experienced can usually tell by the way the car sets and the few things they can see(bigger wheels/tires-type of tires, brake, exhaust etc) and the way the car reacts that something is going on. But they dont know for sure!
Looks like yall had a great time. Lets all get this entire group together and evad Panoz for one day --party at Chas's and have that "homecoming"! I bet we could get over 10 cars if all could come.
