Track Day at Rockingham Oct 21 - 22

Garages are all gone! I am on a wait list for one. Oh well.
Does anyone have a helmet my friend can borrow, he has a medium head and is running in Group 1? My helmet is to big for him so it won't fit.

Got my tire situation all figured out. I got Kuhmo Ecsta 711's on close out from tire rack for $66.00 a piece as street tires and got the Hankook R's I mentionned in an earlier post.
I got everything mounted and following TA's advice I bolted the R's on and went for a spin up to Blairsville to heat cycle them.
The Good: The tires really stick! I could not believe the difference in the steering feel and the "Magic" grip
The Gooder: I embarassed the Y$#@!! out of 3 Infinity G35 guys going up the twisties. Anybody knows a G35 Coupe guy wiht a tag that says "JDMG35"?
The Bad: I picked up another !!*&%^$ Nail! and this one actually punctured the tire. Fortunately it was on the thread so the guys at the tire shop were able to put a patch in from the inside. Whew!
Anyways, I am stoked about Rockingham and I am looking forward to explore my newly increased handling limits!

Correction: Right you are TA, your advice was on the heat cycle thing and not the venue..
Also, after spending a fair amount of time on-track, the ride through the twisties reminds you how much safer you are on track compared to on-comming trafic, mountain drops, walls, etc.
Mood, about the Nails, yes there is a lot of construction in the area but there are also rumors about locals deliberatly spreading nails on the road to discourage us from going back.
The mountain road can be fun I am still not convinced that they spread nails on the road (Would'nt they have to deal with them too? ).
On the other hand after the numerous tire problems that have been reported one can't help but wonder if there may be some truth to the nail stories..

So am I. If anyone wants to drive up together from Atlanta, I will be leaving somewhere around noon on Friday from Balanced Performance (off the 85). I am taking her over there to get corner balanced in the morning.

I am kind of up in the air on what I am doing on Sunday. It depends on how tired I am on Sunday, I really want to make it home so I can work on my car on Monday. Traveling for works sucks, especially since you don't have several weeks to work on your car, you have one or two days to get everything done.

Well, in the event you are coming back, I'd like to park my car in atlanta, and pick it back up sunday night rather than drive. So, if you choose to go that route and want a passenger, let me know. If not, no prob, I'll drive as planned....

Plash, no problem getting a ride, even if I don't come back on Sunday, my best friend is coming and he lives in Atlanta and you can grab a ride with him. And he has a WRX wagon, so he has plenty of room. Can you meet us at noon on Friday? Can my friend borrow your helmet - he has a medium head?

I might drive the RX-7 up to Atlanta and have Charlie take a look at it during the day. Depends on if I feel confident in it. It's only really been an "around town" car since it's been alive. The longest trip it's taken is 4 miles out of town. Shouldn't be a problem though. I hope I'm not overconfident.
Mike, I sent you a PM about the trip.

Phlash, sorry to hear. Sometimes that real life stuff gets in the way of track but there is always next time... I am looking forward to seeing you again next season.

Day 1 Report from The Rock
What a great day. It was a small showing of RX-8s on track (1) but several of the Ga Gang were in attendance.
TA2 - a fast as hell HPDE-er with a mean Mustang! Not an RX-8er but still an honorary member. His new fat *** R compounds (275 width) gripped the pavement tenaciously and his souped up suspension had him running with just about anyone he wanted and devouring most of them. I got the pleasure of riding with TA2 in one of his sessions.. Quite impressive.
MoodDude - another non-RX-8er but a beautiful Turbo 350Z now with go fast looks to match the go fast motor, brakes, and suspension. A special thanks to MD for getting me and Levent out of the Motel6 and into a nice hotel room.
Brad - also not an RX-8er but we'll be glad to make him an honorary member too. His first HPDE. His Subaru WRX wagon getting its first taste of track. We'll see him again I am sure.
Lego - kept us all in line as he worked the pit in area with a smile and a wave. I must have ridden/driven past him 13 times today.
Me - 13 track session (only) and I am worn out. I had 2 students both with Evo IXs. It is a great track and very capable. Both did quite well and made big gains over the course of the day. I'll solo one tomorrow.
In short a great day and I am ready to hit the sack. Wish y'all were with us.

DISCLAIMER:
I did not take these pictures, obviously. But I did find them posted on the NASA forum, they were taken by a friend of David Farmer, the guy who drove the wicked fast blue and yellow corvette race car. So I lifted the ones of TA2, about the only HPDE-er he took pictures of, I think he had a thing for Mustangs. So here they are, just for fun.
and TA2, how did you end up on track with all of these race cars, were you in DE 3?
and for anyone who took some pictures while you were there, I created a gallery over at teh GA Forum for the Rock. Feel free to put your pictures in there.
