A guy from my office with a Miata wants to join the mountain run. I suggest the earlier the better. McDonalds at the end of 400 or is that in Dahlonega?

The one just past the Premium Outlets, it is on the left hand side of the road. I think that is considered Dawsonville there. I say 9 or 10 am would be better.

It takes me 45 minutes from Holcom Bridge and 400. Not too bad. There are a lot of bikers, more bicycles than I had remembered from years ago. Hopefully it will be too hot for them. Join us, it is fun, the more the better.

These settings are where I first learned to drive and allowed me to really, really get to know the capabilities of the car (as always, stressing saftey as my first priority). So my question is, where in Atlanta can I learn about the capabilities of the 8? I don't even know where to cruise (traffic everywhere) when I just feel like driving--it really sucks.

Come to Birmingham and drive down highway 280 at 5 in the afternoon. Then you will reconsider our open roads.

Anyway i just got back from deals gap (you know the dragon). I was planning on setting up something in a couple of weeks for rotarys to meet at deals gap for the week end. I have a couple of 7 from up north interested and ready. Just waiting to pick a date. anyone else interested?

Was lotsa fun. Gotta remember to drop my tire pressure a little before I show up next time. It really helped the scrubbing.

I would really like to try that run early morning with less traffic on the road. Things got a little hairy a couple times. (you say that likes its a bad thing).

Talk to ya soon.

Talking New Shinka, Atlanta/Marietta Area (N/W Atl)

Hey folks - just bought a Shinka this past weekend, here in Marietta - and was wondering if there's a group I could hook up with. Unfortunately, this is a drastically different car than I'm used to driving (my other car is a Jeep Wrangler), so I'm still learning the clutch/gears.

If you guys have a group meet in the area - I would be interested in joining up, and talking shop... and showing off the new wheels too, heh.

I work up in Alpharetta, so if you are anywhere near exit 11 (off 400, at Windward Pkwy) during the days, we could meet up after work for a beer in the area? Otherwise, maybe this coming weekend or something?

You have officially just signed up for a group by posting your message. We have a great group of 8'ers here. Our rallying point is probably Mazcare in Marietta, which is a very important place for you to make contact with. Charlie (Marietta 8) is the owner and a great place to get your car worked on and serviced (http://www.mazcare.com). We get together for runs at Road Atlanta, the mountains, autocrossing, go-kart racing and other events. We are planning a trip to Alabama later to the Barber race.

See https://www.rx8club.com/se-rx-8-forum-30/barber-motorsports-park-bham-al-july-29-31-a-64624/

We are a loose group participating and always planning for the next event and this forum is our meeting place. Just hang out in the SE forum and you will be a member.

Welcome to the club and congrats on your new car.

The best thing about driving in Atlanta is that there is just a lot of variety and really cool streets to drive. My favourite little in-town drive (weekend, no traffic) is to do a round-trip from Roswell Road --> West Wieuca --> Powers Ferry --> Dupree Drive --> Powers Ferry --> Mt Paran and return. Or Roswell Road --> Wieuca --> Peachtree Dunwoody --> Glenridge Connector --> Roswell Road.

For northern suburbs, do I-75 --> I-575 --> Ball Ground --> Crabapple --> Roswell... or continue up 575 to Ellijay, and do Ellijay --> Dahlonegah the back way, then Highway 9 back to Alpharetta.

God, I'm ******* homesick....

Of course, there's always Deals Gap....

OK - two things - where are you originally from then? And... When's the next time the Atlanta group is going up that way (Tail of the Dragon)? I just read part of the website and it looks AWESOME!

Mountian Run

We do a pretty good run, usually starting from the Mickey-D's just past the outlet mall on Ga400. (the intersection of Ga53 and Ga400). from there to Suches via Rt60 then to Lake Windfield Scott via Rt180 on to Lake Vogle to deals Gap. It's a fun trip if you can start by 9:30AM, the later you start the more bikes you see on the road. It takes approx 2.5 hours (round trip) with stops to talk and cool off time. Check this thread on Fridays if you want to see who going on "The Mountian Run".

To go to the Dragon Run, it takes awhile to get there, but it was alot of fun.

The Rt180 route between Lk Winfield Scott and Lake Vogle, is a very mini Dragon. But it is close

My wife and I were up in the N GA mountains a couple of weeks ago for the weekend. We stayed in Helen on Saturday and on Sunday we went from Helen to Brasstown Bald. Then hiked to the top of the mountain. We then went to Vogel and then to Dahlonega. It was a great weekend and the roads were a blast. (though crowded at times)
I was driving the FD on its first extended road trip. We left the RX-8 at home. I didn't see any 8's until we were on the way home on GA 400. The FD and a Nordic Green did a little sprited driving together for a few miles, it was fun to say the least.

Hey! Are you referring to this Sunday (8/27)? I assume McD's on GA400/Ga53 is the meeting place? That'a a bit of a haul up 400 is anyon else going to be going? I'd like to take the drive - is anyone going who I can tail from the Roswell/Marietta area?

You mentioned before that the ride takes like 2 1/2hrs round-trip back to McD's, right?

Thanks, I'm hoping to go! :D

I could be up for extending the trip and going to the tail. i really want to try out the new sways, maybe i can get the RAM Air put on by then.
