To NC RX8 drivers ... what tires are you using for winter

I got the Dunlop SP Sports 8090 summer tires. Can we used that in winter here in NC ? Are you planning to use your dunlops in winter. I'll probably drive my other car on snow day, but i guess summer tires are ok for rainy days ... what do you think?

I'm still debating on whether or not to buy the winter Dunlops myself, but most likely I'll end up keeping the Bridgestones and rolling with the blows. I live in the city and don't drive far to work, so it's not as much of an issue. However, if I was commuting to work each day over bridges or back roads, and didn't have an alternate vehicle, I'd consider winter/all season tires a wise investment. To be fair though, last year and the winter before I used Dunlop SP Sport 9000's (on a FWD) during the ice storms and didn't have a problem.

So, will you guys trade your Dunlops or Bridgestones for All Season tires? Or will you get a separate set of winter tires?

DANG ... I went to the Greensboro dealer to have my rotor rust remove, so I was able to talk to the Top dog Service Manager of CityMotors Mazda in Greensboro. And I asked him if I have to change to winter tires and store my Dunlop 8090 summer tires for winter. And he said flat out, " NO, those tires will run in North Carolina winter without problems." Ahh .. what do you say guys?

I think he is right...wow...service guys.. right...whats the world coming to! :D Anyway, NC winters arent harsh enough to justify new tires.

I actually ask Dunlop about the stock Dunlop 8090 ... here's what Dunlop has to say:

i talked to an rx-8 owner from michigan and he said he bought 17" rims and ran slightly knobby tires and had no problems, and they get quite a bit of snow, for the ice though, i say to stay inside if your not in a fwd vehicle

Yeah, definitely will not use RX8 on snow. I will use my Quattro. But on cold but dry weather, it should be ok.
