First, talked to Nabil today, and CONGRATS AGAIN /jealous/. Sorry to hear about his tranny though, but that is the price you pay to be a rock star.

Could you guys offer some opinions? I am considering this instead of an STi.

OK, first video is up. Ahead of time, it is a little bright in places, the camera was having trouble with the big changes in light at BMP.

This is the third session on Saturday. We tried to grid early, and managed to be about 5th in line. We were right behind an E46 M3, and we were debating on whether or not he would hold us up, or leave us behind. It was the former. For the out lap, and the next lap and a half, he would drag race us on the straights, and then brake really early, and we would be all over him again. I always tried to maintain a safe distance from him, and I am glad I did. At about the 5 minute mark, you get to see what happens when someone succumbs to too much "pressure". His words. After the session, he came to our paddock space, and apologized, and admitted that it was to much to try and stay in front, he thought he should be faster than me. The best part was, we all called it, after the session, we could tell that he was trying really hard to stay in front of us, and that coming out of turn 5, he tried to get on the power too soon. It was pretty classic.

BMW Under Pressure

I only got this video off the camera before I started to run out of disk space on my laptop, and as a result, did not get any of the other video off. I am going to work on that tonight. More videos tomorrow.

Plain and simple... dude should have pointed you by after two turns when you were on his ***. He should have seen he wasn't going to leave you. What was that wide crap in turn 2... he was WAY out there. I don't think he had a very good instructor because he was all over the place. Great driving on your part and good to see you keep your line and not follow his. Of course you did have an ace in your passanger seat!

yes, he should have pointed us by, more than once on the second lap. I gave him the first lap as a warm up, but after that, it was full tilt for me, well, I wanted it to be. TA and I were a little miffed at the driver, but we were pissed at the instructor, because it is his job to realize, they are not shaking me off. that was our main concern when we were discussing it with Ron Hale afterwards. The driver later confessed, he thought he "should" be faster, his car has more HP, and he should be able to get away. He also made the mistake of thinking my car was bone stock. He just assumed he would leave me. TA later said something when we were following a blue Vette, "God did not put us behind you, Travis did" I was laughing pretty good at that one. The Vette did the same thing for almost a lap, leave me in the straight, and slow me down everywhere else.

and while the BMW driver was off line in a lot of places, it have me a great chance to practice not being fixated on a target, it let me watch him, but maintain my line. Once i wanted to pass him on the inside of the 2-3 turn, because he left miles of space. but in DE2 I would have been in big trouble for that. I also got to practice avoiding a spinning car. So, I learned a lot.

I did notice that instance you mentioned about wanting to pass inside on the turn. I was saying to myself... Yikes! don't do it... don't do it! and I was knowing the whole time you really wanted go for it.

That's Al and he's getting another 100hp in go fast parts added for next season. He already has additional go fast parts including a chip. He's also looking to have it trailered in as well and has his sights set on TA as his instructor. Al's a really nice guy and I'm hoping one day to get a ride in it. He will be driving at RA with the Skip Barber group (Panoz) in November. I may go over and hang out a little. I really like his ride big time!

He is a nice guy.
100 MORE hp - yeah, that was what I was thinking about that car. Pretty, but it just needs some hp. Lol.

Just wanted to make these available for public display.

Three videos from my weekend at Barber. All three were taken using the TracMount system available here: http://www.tracmount.com This system continues to be my favorite way to capture video in my RX-8.

First video is me chasing L8Apex around the track. He was faster than me so I had a hard time keeping up.

Second is just some laps I had fun with. Thought it made some good video.

Third one contains my best laps of the weekend. Best I was able to do was a 1:55.

I left them in DIVX format since the file sizes are so much smaller in DIVX. The WMV file were twice the size. The DIVX player and codec can be downloaded here:

I liked his car too, go figure. and I think that at BMP, he got an instructor that would let him drive it, he was moving a much better pace this time out.

It never got old watching him coming down the front straight in that rocketship.
