I've been down that way a few times.

Try to hook up with the Wiregrass Region of SCCA. I'm pretty sure I remember at least one guy with an RX-8. Anyway, they are a great group of folks that hold fun autocrosses near Dothan.

Good luck!

Thanks Kurt - I'm not into Autocross, but at least I'd be around car guys/gals!

I will be heading down to Rucker next month for WOC/ flight school. I'll be the canidate with the 'I wish I could be driving my 8 instead of doing this school' look on my face.

I was based at Rucker in the sixties. You are in for a real picnic as a WOC. If it is as tough as it was back then hang in there and get ready for a lot of uniform changes and abuse. Great Post. I was cadre back then teaching guys how to set the magnetos on the old Franklin Six engines that were on the OH23 choppers amd L-19 fixed wing. As a WOC it will be a while before you can make the 90 mile drive due south to Panama City. I owned a Morris Minor back the 48BHP of blazing glory.

Actually. If you have been on Ft. Rucker long enough, there are about six 8's. But only a few are mazda speed. Most of them aren't in the loop with each other due to the variation in flight school times. I have the grey one with a garage door scratch.

Some of the instructors have some old FC's and I saw one FD, though I think he left. Also, if you need to be serviced, DIY. Enterprise dealership attempted to rape me on tires, an oil change, and the standard 30,000 mile. Since there is a solid community of gearheads, DIY is the way to go. Get a radar detector, and a GPS. There a quite a few twisties, but the cops are out looking for the motorcycle riders. Without a radar detector, you'll be in their sites. lol.

I have a GPS enroute - I'll also start saving for a V1.

Hope to meet you when I get there, Heavy. I'll be in the Silver, lowered RX8 parked near the post HQ building.
