Track Day - Talledega Gran Prix 4/27/08
S2kAtlanta would like to invite you all out to our first track day for 2008. It will be on Sunday April 27th at Little Talledega Gran Prix (www.tgprace.com).
This is an excellent course for beginners and first time track goes because of it's long runoffs and short straights, 100+ mph. Don't be fooled however, the course is very demanding and requires your full attention at all times. I have not mastered that blasted decreasing radius turn!
Official timing will not take place however drivers are free to time themselves.
Requirements to run TGP are as follows:
Long pants and closed toe shoes
Snell 95/M2000 or higher rated helmet
No loose cabling or or car body parts
Car numbers (will be asigned day of event if you don't already have some, Painters tape work fine)
Pricing for the day will be $225.
This price will get you a full day of track time and will get you a minimum of 2.5 hours of seat time. Estimated seat time this year will be closer to 3 hours. Payments can be made via paypal to events@s2katlanta.com.
A total of 25 spots are currently available. A minimum deposit of $125 is require to hold your spot. All payments are non-refundable, it is your responsibility to sell your spot if you have paid and cannot make the track day. Final payment is due no later than Friday April 18th or you will risk losing your spot.
Those attending need to be at the track no later than 7:00am Central time (bama time). Tech inspection will start once the gates are open and the drivers meet will start at 7:45am. If you miss the driver's meet and/or tech inspection, your track sessions will be delayed until it is taken care of.
If you plan on attending this track day, post up so your name can be added to the list. Remember, no spot is considered reserved until you have made either the down payment or paid in full.
Please let me know if you have any questions

We rented TGPR in Jan, and had a blast.
It was a smaller weekday event, and I had several people ask me to notify of any upcoming ones. I will pass this along to them.
I would jump in, but think I am already busy that weekend.
Hopefully I can connect you with some other mazda folks!

Just a FYI- I hope that ya'll do know that 4/27/08 is the same day as the Nascar race approx 12 miles from TGP. They route alot of the traffic out of the Speedway right by there. Just in case anyone was going to get to the track via the exit 173 Eastaboga, you might want to go to exit 185 Oxford and go south on 21 until you see the TGP. Otherwise traffic will be a nightmare!

How bad are trackdays on tires?
I have a stock A/T with Bridgestone Potenza RE960s (225/45/R18), they're pretty new and I'm thinking of getting rid of the car as soon as I can anyhow (~2months).

TGPR didn't seem to be too bad on them - surface is pretty new. Left front will take the most wear in the current config. Might want to move the rear to the front and vice versa if they are unidirectional at lunch. Or do a quick rotate if they are not uni's. Just to keep wear even.
But honestly, if they are pretty new, and you haven't done many events in a car, probably don't even need to worry about it.

Actually it will be the right front getrting the most wear. If you over drive the car, you will reallyh wear it down. Don't overdrive, get the car turned in and rotate the front 2 tires midway through the day and you will be A OK.
