This is quite the thread resurrection.

it was fun reading it again and realizing the posts are over a year old and we have come a long way. It sure was fun starting off and is fun today too.

To get better at open tracking, you need seat time. We have 1 slot left open for our private track rental at Little Talladega on Mon Jan 14th. You will get 2.5 - 3 hours worth of open track. Cost is $130. PM me for details. I am being selective on who I accept as I am not interested in any dumbass, irresponsible behaviors.

In the mix of cars we will have 3 RX8s, an RX7, 2 Miatas, an Integra, and an Exige S.

This is your opportunity to get your fill of track in a very comfortable setting. There is no pressure and no crowds. Just you and your car exploring what it can do and not get into any trouble with the law. There is something exhilerating when you accelerate out of pit lane and don't have to watch your speed. Just go out hard and keep it matted until you have to brake for a corner. Hit 100 - 110mph no worries and no tickets. The track is wide open and there is not much to hit (although if you try hard enough, you will find something). We will have only 3 cars on track at once so no one will be chewing on your bumper or holding you up. Passing will be allowed with point by only.

This is a picture of the track

The 1.4 mile track is fairly easy to learn and features a flowing mix of straights, esses, sweepers, and a banked carousel. You can set personal learning goals and work on them during a private track day like this, or just drive and drive and drive until you puke. Track width is 32 feet at its narrowest and 42 feet at its widest. The paddock is paved and the track surface is only 1 year old. What more could you want?

If you are curious about doing this event, or maybe you just are not sure, PM me and I will be happy to talk to you about it. If you ever thought you may want to do a track day, this is the best way to start. Autocross = a total of 4 minutes of run time for $35. I expect you would get somewhere between 2.5 and 3 hours of run time with this outing for $130. Plus, there will be no cone ********.

If I can get my timing cover fixed, I may be in, however, it looks very doubtful at this point. I mean, I could get the cover fixed, but why you have that off, the cam is right there, begging to be swapped, as are the heads .

STF - we have talked before but I haven't met you really. You should show up for this. This could be a little test and tune for the new ride. If it isn't ready yet, see you at the next one I guess.

I agree w/TrackingAddict - it's not how fast you (seat of the pants) think you go (we do have RX-8s after all lol), it's how you go fast . And to truly understand that vs. how fast you 'could be' in your car... as dannobre said, "buy a traqmate", study your data - now that's an eye-opener .

It's all about the driver, I have had point bys from Porsche GT3s, 911s, Vipers, even Ferraris on occasion in lower groups, and there is no way I "should" be able to do that, drivers being equal. In the adv groups I now haunt, that doesn't happen anywhere near as often, but still occassionaly !

The fun and challenge is actually to be able to outdrive some of the awesome machinery (drivers) out there , in an underpowered momentum car like the RX-8. The frustration is getting wasted by someone in the straights after outhandling them in the twisties
Heh...you mean like this???

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...35336967829043

I kept losing the C5 inside the course...and then it would reappear after the straights...so per my instructors recommendation...I let him pass...and then tried to park my car in the vette's trunk...heh

Heh...I always disable DSC...once I forgot and it nearly killed me once coming off a long straight into a corner...it apparently did not like what I was doing and kicked on...scared the crap out of the instructor...

DSC taking over at 90mph is sure to be a crowd pleaser...I think I have the vid I can upload to google...you can see the effect quite clearly...good stuff...

I wish I had video of the time my ABS sensor on the front of the Evo burned on one side. Turn 8, CMP, entering corner during Evo shoot out at @90mph, touch brakes for a little pat and go, inside front tires locks up. World goes into slow motion, I am steering while looking out the drivers side window, literall drifting (because I am HOT YO ! ), I see the flagman reaching for the RED flag, and I realize how bad this is. I let of the brake, planted the throttle, the car settled, half off track, and on-to the next corner. I have never been scared, but I will say that got my full and undivided attention.
