Gwinnet Co. Fairgrounds Autox-July 10

Starting a new thread for the July 10th. Autocross event at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds. As of 06-20-2005, registration is not open. Just wanted to get a thread going for those that want to participate, and to get the topic un-buried from the GA club thread.

The registration site is located at:

http://www.joesvideos.com/scca_reg/

Come out and join us, it is a lot of fun. I know I will be there. Add your name to the list!

Hey Jamie, how did the turbo install go? That should be pretty cool to see.

Went pretty good. No real problems other than a few leaks here and there. Just about all the bugs are worked out and I'm going next week or so to get it tuned. My first impression was just, "dang, that's different". Sounds cool, looks cool, and goes much faster :D

I'll be there too!

Jamie, with the turbo, you'll be in "SM" not "STU"...

- Spyder_doo - SM Afternoon (Yellow run group)

No need to get up too early. :D So I will go for the afternoon, it lets me get there and watch, and figure out the track a little. It helped last time to just watch for an hour or so.

I knew it was one or the other. Wasn't sure which one though. Thanks.

I have a choice of afternoon or morning? If that's the case I want afternoon so I can watch first.

Good idea, get there early, watch and learn. It helps to familiarize yourself with the course, watching the other cars run the course was almost as helpful to me as walking the track.

1. I have a question about numbers. I've seen arguments for and against magnetic. What do you guys suggest? Where do you get them locally?

2. Where do you suggest I go online to get a helmet and what was the spec you told me to look for Splan8?

3. Anything else I need to know going in on this, my VIRGIN run of any kind other than the mountains of North Georgia?

4. I want someone experienced to ride with me, at least my first run. Splan, will you be able to?

I'm excited and scared!

As a novice, they will give you a sheet of paper to tape to your car. use a low tack painters tape. Afterwards, you can go to magnetic...

And, yes I can ride with you if you want.

yep, painters tape is great. It holds the paper on, and leaves no residue on the car. I will have a roll with me, we can all use it.

this is where i got mine. quick shipping, if you get it and it is too small, too big, you can return it for the proper size. sounds like an ebay feedback.

For those who have not checked, registration for this event is now OPEN

or you could wait and use one of the loaner helmets at this event to see what size you would need and then order one after that.

snell (or is it bell?) 95 and 00 are the required standards this year, but next year 95 won't be acceptable because of the new 05 standard (not sure if those are on sale yet). but i'd recommend against the 95 just because you wouldn't be able to use it as long.

more info:
4.3.1 Helmets
Helmets meeting the following standards must be worn while on
course: All helmets meeting the current or two immediately preceding
Snell Foundation standards (SA, K, or M), or SFI standards 31.1A,
31.2A, 41.1A, or 41.2A are acceptable.
