GARX8Club track day at TGPR Jan 28 2006
Thanks for the replies.
No worries about being around the group, they we very nice to me when I accompanied Lego to the Barber Grand Am race last year.
It seems to me that the RX-8 crowd seem to be a lot less threatened by other vechicles out there than some of the other groups out there, especially the Honda guys....too bad because I think the EVO's and Subies are great cars and a hoot to drive.
I plan on having fun, learning some stuff, and learning my car. Will most likely be getting an STi soon, but unfortunately not before the 28th, so I'll be staying in a AWD car. Just not looking to the horrendous push, so maybe you can help me out with that.
I think Lego will attest to my habits around and in cars, so if any of you are worried, don't be, I am safety conscious and have an understanding of vechicle dynamics. Been a car nut every since my first ride in my dad's vette a looong time ago. Learned to drive a manual in my dad's 944 turbo S, which I thought was cool.
BTW, I'll be 30 the 17th of this month
Looking forward to it.
Bill

sounds liek you are another true car nut, soon to be track addict liek the rest of us. welcome to the group.
it will be fun to wtch the difference between the 8's and the AWD cars there. Or even drive one...but I would not push my luck.

Yeah I think it will be cool to see. I have driven Lego's 8 at the autocross events and was really impressed with it. It was way flatter through the corners than my Subie.
I forgot to mention in the previous post that anyone is more than welcome to drive the WRX if they want. I want everyone to be able to have fun with it if they have the desire to. I don't expect anyone to let me drive their car since they have no idea who I am ( Lego offered to let me drive his ), but like I said the offer is there to drive mine if you want. If you've never driven a AWD car or a Subie for that matter, they are fun.
All this talk about going is driving me nuts, I can't wait to get there!
-WRX Boy (haha that's still funny to me)

you can thank STF for your new name.
I would not mind getting to take a coupel of touring laps in an AWD car. I have test driven an WRX, from when I bought the 8. But never more than local traffic rules will regularly permit. I would be glad to let someone drive my car, but probably request they not explore the outer limits of it's ability, since I do want to drive it home, cause I kinda still owe a lot of money on it.

one more reason RA in March is going to be so much fun, I am hoping we are the one car with the best turnout there.
I dont judge someone by what they drive...well maybe sometimes...but for the most part, run what you brung, and have fun doing it.
It was just a stupid joke with a grain of truth to it. It wasn't very funny, huh?
I've been to events where I was the only Mustang there and I'm always asked, "Do the brakes on those things suck as bad as I heard they do?" I had three different people ask me that in one day at a Chin Motorsports event a couple of years ago.
I agree with your philosophy of run what you brung and have fun.

Do the tires feel 'squishy' at all? I used to have the previous generation Azenis on my miata - 205 series on a 6.5" 15" wheel. The tires seemed to sorta 'give' a little...as if the sidewalls were flexing.

My RT-215's felt a litle squirmy maybe the first few days, but now they freakin' rock. It was amazing what some sticky tires did for my Subie....they put M+S tires on it from the factory....not conducive to cornering at all.

Wow, he's starting to contribute now! Keep it up!
This track looks a little like roebling. Yall are going to have fun. For those with not much track--may sure you get a good alignment before and dont be so driven that you doint allow your tires to cool some. Track like this can really wear a tire down. Sounds like ya'll will have plenty of track time so dont punish your tires TOO much
I am so sad I will not be there!):

You guys are going to have so much fun, I can't wait. now, WRXboy, 32V and myself will remember to park away from you guys, so we don't end up as the '*******' in the picture, who screwed the shot.
As for the Azenis, they are great tires. They will get slick if you get them hot, but it will be the afternoon before you get to that comfort level.

Silver8, if you or someone else is going to bring a video camera, we should take a shot looking down the track straight, and all the 8's in a row going by. It doesn't have to be really fast, but if we are all in 2nd or 3rd gear and screaming, it'll be a great little clip. We could set the camera up looking down the track, right on the edge and all get up to the same speed and whiz by every second or so behind each other. The sound of all the rotaries would be great!
Then we could have the Evo 8 drive by the other way and screw the whole shot up!
Just kidding, I just thought the clip would be pretty cool. Especially at high revs.

You could always tell the family you are going out really early to breakfast, say you got lost and show back up around 10 that night.......
lego, I think that would be a great clip. I will have my big digital video camera. My brother and I will be shooting with it. We will have all day to play so if you want to set up a shot, we can do what ever you like.
