Ok here is the update.

On Sunday the 21st of October we will be leaving the Lowes Parking lot on US129 (that's in Maryville, TN. about 10 minutes south of Knoxville). We will head south on 129 until we reach a large enough turn off (depends on number of cars) at the foot of the Dragon. After everyone takes a stretch and sort we will hit the second leg of trip that up the Dragon. The second leg will end at Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort where everyone can get snacks, a drink, use the restroom etc. Our third leg will be a short trip to Fontana Dam for pictures etc. We are still travelling on US129. The third leg of the trip is in NC and not hardly patrolled. (Never seen police on that side but regardless be careful). The fourth leg will continue to travel 129 until we reach 74 and the travel east toward Gatlinburg. We will travel 74 til we get to 411 which will take us into Gatlinburg. There we can choose to eat shop or head down a little further to Pigeon Forge. The last bit of the trip will either be to continue north on 411 towards Knoxville or hit I 40 west toward Knoxville

Hope you can ride with us It should be a blast. As soon as I actually find out actual distances i will post them but i am pretty sure the entire trip should be a little less than 150 miles.

I made a mistake. I was told its 441 not 411. Anyway road coming back from Gatlinburg through Pigeon Forge. How would you be travelling this way. If coming down I-75 then I would guess come on in til you hit HWY129 in Knoxville

Better research the current state of affairs at the Dragon before driving way up there. The Tennessee Highway Patrol has seriously clamped down on the Tail of the Dragon Runners. Some days they say there's six troopers for every mile.

Quite a bit of our trip is in North Carolina and much less patrolled. The Dragon itself is pretty heavy but once you actually get about halfway up even that is a lot less on the Tennessee side. Having said that we will be conservative on the TN side and careful the entire route.

We did have the run today and it was a blast. Unfortunately there was a cycle accident and most likely a fatality. Prayers go out to the family. I also hope next time you can join us.

How was the traffic enforcement? I have been reading that the THP is getting heavy handed out there. What did it look like to you?

I have made this trek the last three years in a row and I am considering skipping this year due to what I've read about the THP on the dragon.

(-Sorry to hear about the crash/fatality )

THP wasn't that bad at all. We only saw two actually and one was leaving the Dragon going toward Knoxvile and the other was at the accident. We also went about 3 weeks prior to the day above and it was much heavier on TN side. I have never seen anything on the NC side of the line in the over half dozen times I have ridden up there. Not called the Dragon at that point but same beautiful curvy roads.

From: Birmingham, AL ... before Cincinnati, OH
I was up there three weeks ago scoping out the area for DGRR event.. and I saw 0 LEOs saturday afternoon and saw 2 LEOs on Sunday.

Sunset ZR, I'm organizing a huge Rotary ONLY event in April.. Registration opened yesterday and I'm getting great feed back (last year we had over 200 people and 130-150 cars).

Goto: www.DealsGapRotaryRally.com for more info... Or goto the Sub forum on the event section.

Thanks for the info. I'm still going to wait a while before getting my room, just to make sure. (ZdayZ isn't till May I think)
