You mean I can't bring the 22 Winchester (with scope) to shoot the deer as they run across the track? Oh dear....

Tornado hit Roebling

Apparently a tornado hit Roebling on Thursday. I saw mention of it on the NASA-SE forum and went to the Buccaneer Region forum to find out more. The report is as follows:
Tornado at Roebling Thursday
by pebbles on Sat Oct 11, 2008 8:22 pm

Just wanted you to be informed about the tornado at Roebling Thursday. There were no injuries, the damages are as follows:
Part of roof on tower off
Stand across form tower ripped out of ground and destroyed
Tree down in front of Kaye & Richard's house
Many many trees damaged by wind & lifgtning
Turn 5 workstation is upside down & ruined
Potalets overturned all over
Trash cans everywhere blown by winds
Several sections of fence crushed by limbs & portalets
P.A. & base station gone beyond repair
tower structure was damaged, may have to replace it.

Kaye & Richard set about getting things cleaned up and repaired. By Friday noon, they had a lot of the mess cleaned up or it was being done. The tree trimmers had a full day's work gettind rid of broken limbs.

We are having our final Buccaneer event Nov 1-2. We hope you can come help & support the Time Trials event. Worker incentives are the same, and with 9 turns now, we need more workers. Please let me know either yes or no, so Art can keep track of workers. Contact Art amcflagger@aol.com if you would like to work the event.pebbles

Sounds like there will be an SCCA event in early Nov so that must mean this won't affect the Darkside DE. Still, I love the track and hate to hear about damage to it and the facilities.

I heard from the R/E of the Buccaneer Region - and he did say that Mother Nature was unkind - but fortunately - NO ONE WAS HURT...

Dark Side will be there - not to worry... we might just have to speak up louder...

You old dragger you - didn't you get the email with all the info and pdfs from me? If not, I'll send it again - it's the one that lets you know what number belongs on your car for the weekend... (you are a Robert A - yes? - let me know if you didn't get the one I just emailed you...)

Any physical packet given - is given at the track, in person, by -- me! And that's the welcome packet....

Can't wait - just three more weeks...

How about we start the countdown from the 10 day mark? Three weeks out is just too much for me...

Added note - UPS just dropped off the lapel pins and they are better than the photoshop document - they are GREAT!!!

Lol - John W is aka OnRails. You have met him. DE3 and time trials w/ NASA. Carried home a trophy at his first time trial.

BTW - if you folks haven't thought about lodging, OnRails and I are staying at the host hotel. 79$ is you mention DarkSide.

Time to start focusing on this one! We had a blast yesterday at TGPR.
Myself, Trackaddict, SilverEight, L8Apex, Valpac, Marietta8, KurtBob, Don C, Russ, and 2 other friends rented the track and made the trek over.
Beautiful day, great friends, and lots of zoom-zoom.

The Holiday Inn has a few more rooms. But in the "Packet" we also give this info:
If they are booked solid, (and they tend to be) you might want to try the new hotels on next door or across the street. The rates posted may or may not be accurate. It's what I could find on the internet....

Sleep Inn (Next door Holiday Inn)
105 San Drive, Pooler
912-748-8545
They have 67 rooms. Without making any deals their rooms some have reported getting rooms at $49 when they have called directly or on line for $65.

Magnolia Inn Suites (Next door Sleep Inn)
107 San Drive, Pooler
912-748-6883
They have 40 rooms
Their average daily rate is $65.

La Quinta Inn Suites
414 Gray St. Pooler, GA (Across from Holiday Inn)
They have 63 rooms and the rate is about $99 a night (plus tax)

Other standby hotels:

Best Western Bradbury Suites (from $94)
155 Bourne Ave.
Pooler GA 31322
(912) 330-0330
www.bestwesternpooler.com

Hilton Garden Inn ($99 to $139)
80 Clyde E. Martin Drive
Savannah, GA 31408
(912) 964-5550
www.savannahairport.gardeninn.com

Ramada Limited ($70)
1016 E. Hwy 80
Pooler, GA 31322
(912) 748-5242
www.ramada.com

And for those of you bringing that special person with you that wants a true Savannah experience -- located in the heart of the old city, the best B&B in Savannah - ta duh - The Ballastone Inn. It is owned by our friends Jim and Jennifer Salandi. Tell them Jackie sent you!
Ballastone Inn
14 East Oglethorpe Ave, Savannah

Swoope - yessir, will let you know next time we have an event.
For us, it is a one-day deal mostly (since it is so close). Long haul for you for a single track day, but we would love to have you.

Silver, OD - lots o sessions and you want to be rested. 80 bucks if you split a hotel. Not my decision, but just don't comp your fun by being all tired. Hell, get a dive hotel for 50-60 for at least Sat night.
No soapbox here - I camped at RA when it was 105. I won't do it again, but I did it!
