Funny the turbo CRX was trackside with I think a mechanical on the same lap mine went to lunch. Nothing like feeling the engine "stutter" right when it was to come onto vtec at 6K. I never got to talk to the red CRX. I don't know which car was uglier, his or mine. My car does not get its picture taken too often because it is not "photogenic". New paint weighs more and doesn't make you faster. Thanks guys.

When the Alabama Region SCCA puts on its PDX at Barber next year, bring your cars!! We will have plenty of track time and open passing in the advance group.

apexinghonda---thanks for the post--i enjoyed reading it. Sounds like you really like your car. I have always thought it was just that type of car that helped todays teenagers understand what I felt when I worked on my 55chevy when I was much younger.
We rx8 folks certainly understand momentum and lack of torque. It's a wonder we get up the hills we run.
Slip angles with the V710"s lol who has ever heard of such! (They can get ya all excited cant they) Try some crawl space dust coated toyo RA's at 128 mph(or so) braking into 10A at Road Atlanta which madates a valium tablet as big as a biscuit by the time you reach(if you reach!) turn 12. Damn things ride like a wagon wheel but actually they are pretty good tires. In my case it is the driver making the tires bad.

Hey I know all about heat cycled RA-1s at Road Atlanta. Before the V710s I was using freebie throw away (as in from the Appalachian Tire Trailer after club races) RA-1 that the spec miata racers had dismounted. Yeah I enjoy my car. I sold a mkiv twin turbo six speed supra (I kept mine stock boost) and bought the CRX because it was more fun, faster, and a lot cheaper on the expendables. Road Atlanta, my favorite track.

I was there at two NASA and two Panoz events. The other drivers should all be on here.

The Panoz events are better on Sunday. They only have two run groups,A & B. you run every 30 minutes, lots of driving. Road Atlanta is my favorite track.There is nothing like doing 165 down the back straight and standing on the brakes and hope she stops. Then if thats doesn't get the juices flowing, they toss turn 12 at you. David

It's my favorite track as well. I live just 15 miles from the track and frequent it for spectator events as well, auto and motorcycle. Watching the Superbikes is a speed sensory overload. That run from turn 7 to the braking zone up to turn 10a is without a doubt one of the biggest rushes I've had on the track. My tail get's a little squirrelly and I can't wait to go back and try it with my new suspension and see if it tames it down some.

EDIT:
There are three areas I plan to work on when I go back. Turn 4 through the Esses, entering turn 6 with more speed and trail braking and more speed in turn 12,

The Esses are where I notice a lot of students get nervous. What sets your car up well for the Esses actually starts at T3. If you take that turn correctly it makes the transition going to the Esses beter.T6 you should not need to trail brake. The car should be braking in a straight line ,and at your turn in you need to be rolling into the gas. As your car starts to settle,you should be able to go to the floor and brake straight line for T7. T12 is and always will be a butt tightener.The seat in my car looks like a volcano from that turn.

Yep, a little maintenance throttle there. No trail brake.

Barry,
Not to get away from the arguing, but is their a date on this?? I know the race date, but I haven't heard anything about having a PDX next year?? If so I guess I'm going to have to go away from my plan of not running a DE next year so I could get a dedicated track car and not kill mine FD.

Yes,the date is June 30 and July 1 of 07. I will be the event chair and chief instructor at that event that Alabama Region of the SCCA for our PDX. David Leonard

And I thought I was the only one that got a little nervous on that turn, that is a pretty funny way to put it - you don't mind if I use it

As far as my favorite track - I am up in the air on this one. RA is great, but so are Barber and Sebring. Barber for being so technical and Sebring for their bumps. I never thought I would like bumps on track, but Sebring makes it interesting, especially turn 17 under the tunnel, that one is also a big butt tightener! Yet, I have not been to VIR yet, but I will correct this next weekend!

I am probably going to stick with Chin since you get so much more for what you pay for with them! I may throw in some other events so I can drive RA, since Panoz won't let them in RA. This was due to the fact that Chin pretty much destroyed Panoz attendance at Sebring, and Panoz is affraid they may kill all their DE programs. If you guys have never done a Chin event, I highly recommended them. Yes - they are more money up front, but how they run their program - you can get over 5 hours of track time per day if you wanted. Yet, I find that 3 to 4 hours per day is just right - any more than that is just overkill!

Hey - I know you where my instructor (and you where the right instructor for me!) and I agree with a few points you made on this forum, but TA2 is TA2 and we all like him for who he is. But I do agree with you that he needs to not be so agressive at track. But, could we make this a friendly wager - something like the looser has to wear a dress on track the next day?
I know exactly who you where talking about that ran into the GT3 Cup at Barber, since I was there. Now he is band from all HPDE and club racing events in the Southeast.
I talked to the mechanics from the GT3 Cup after it happened, and they where expecting the guy to come up and say he was sorry for what had happened. Instead he came up with his video camera and try to state how he was in control and it was the track and the GT3 fault for him running into them. Funny - because the GT3 had run off track a minute before the accident, sitting on the grass on a wall, and the corner workers had thrown the yellow flag. Everyone else slowed down for him, and the BMW ran around everyone that had slowed down for the yellow, then got out of control - went off track and hit the parked GT3 Cup. Thus, he could brag that he passed everyone, yet he still crashed.

And I think you said you where going back to Sebring this winter - if so - have a great time!
