By the way, everyone, the Daytona Grand Am race will be airing on SPEED this weekend. Saturday evening at 8:00 PM. Make sure to watch since ROAR will be on it. They put on a tough fight. Can't wait til the Homestead Race! That track is great for the RX-8.

I will bring a few
2 liters of soft drinks(diet coke and coke?),
some h20,
about 15-20 hamburgers(already cooked),
some brownies for Silver,
maybe some cassarole stuff
Bed? condinments?
Since i am DRIVING this event i will be limited in space. I will sleep in my car(cold or not) as we have bonded and separation anxiety is not pretty. So if that frees up a bed or something---------?
Has anyone a camera mount they will not be using? i finally have a dvd camcorder and for the 1st TIME I plan on recording or attempt to record. I may just try the aluminum bar mounted from the trunk area? Advice?
Start this w/e prepping my car--cleaning up my brake calipers, installing the ss lines speed bleeders, , putting the carbo tech pads in, flushing the system, changing oil/filter, cleaning the air filter, checking all the underneath bolts.
By the way I have the afe short shifter now. I will let yall experience it. Sure mays shifting more precise--maybe i will not accidently go from 3nd to 2nd on the short straigth after 5 now!
Starting to get good---really good--as in DAD you have to leave home for a while--come back after you have settled down! You are starting to mumble the torque settings for your lugnuts in your sleep!
I havent had track since last oct!

OD - I have one that you can borrow. I made it so it can either mount with three suction cups or onto a roll bar. If you use it, I will make sure I get in front of you and slow way down so you can keep up with me.

By the way, on a side note, have you all watched any of the Forza Motorsports Showdown? I've been Tivoing it. They are doing a lot of stuff at Road Atlanta... Pretty cool. It's great to hear the circle track folks talk about never being on a road coarse before and being scared!

I've been watching Forza too, some of it looks like BS TV stuff like when Gushi cut straight through bypassing 10B or powersliding out of 12.. Still it is highly entertaining.

I agree, I don't believe he cut a straight line through 10A/B at 100+ mph. He car wouldn't have stood it. It's still pretty entertaining though and LG Motorsports is in it which is great!

Right by the outside of 8 is Hazel's trailer..
Little Preview on the "new" RA:
- I Just got off the phone with TA, he had a BLAST. He was very pleased with the new smooth surface and the BMWCCA folks where very competent on track / well organized.
I'll let the Man himself give you the details.

Road Atlanta report
I just got home from RA. The BMWCCA had an instructor familiarization day at the track and for $150 it was open track from 9am until 5pm with 2 ten minute corner worker breaks and an hour lunch. I had enough by 1:30 and decided to come home ahead of Friday traffic and put some fresh brake pads on so I can stop tomorrow as well as I could today.
The track is very familiar despite the new pavement. There are some new bumps for OD to talk about. I didn't find anything unsettling. There is a dip at the end of turn 4 right before you turn down into the esses. There is some wavy pavement in the esses as you start climbing up the hill for 5. My car didn't mind either but I am on new shocks that work much better than the old stock ones. I didn't realize how "floaty" the old shocks had become.
I found plenty of grip on the track pretty much all over. The braking zone for 10 is butter smooth and grippy. I was able to brake hard without tripping ABS all day. I think the smoothness of the track makes it deceptively faster.
Tomorrow I will have 2 students - one novice and the other an experienced driver. Both are in 3 series BMWs so the cars are definitely capable of speed.
Y'all are going to love the track. It really is great and better than it was. There are plenty of markers you can use to relearn braking and turn in points. That's all for now!

BTW - BMW is having touring laps on Sunday if anyone wants to preview the new surface.
Asmoran - since you are new to this thing, it may be a good idea for you to come out and experience the track at a lower speed.

New info - I have to go to TN for work on Wednesday, so I will be trailering up the car that day and dropping it off at a friends house near the track. On Friday, I will be driving back to Atlanta in the morning to pick up the car and go to the track. Since I might be one of the first ones at the track, is there anything you guys want me to do when they let me in? Do you guys want to Paddcock space near Roar like last year, or your designated spot on the map? Any food/drinks/ice I can run and get? I will have all day on Friday to do whatever we need (and I don't have to even take vacation )
And I got my new hub bearing on and everything is right with the world again.

The plan for me and the lodge are to be at RA mid afternoon.....We may or may not have to wait to get in to set up......depends on what kind of day the RA folks are having......
It'll give me time to set up the lodge, the big *** grill, start sampling the adult beverage of the evening and generally just hang.........till folks start showing up for the brat dinner Friday night......

Question though: Looking at the map on the RA site (with the nifty magnifying glass) we're running clockwise right?
Anyone else got a better map, maybe an elevation map?
