the simplest answer is never take your car to a car wash. And then the guys with the dirty towels that dry the car at the end of the wash just add to the swirls I bet.

I agree with flatso about those car washes - the idea of all those guys swarming over my car like locusts with funky old dirt-laden rags just makes me shiver. I usually wash the 8 myself, but the Chevron down the street just installed a new "touchless" car wash (no brushes), and it's much more effective than the old system they had been offering before - it actually blasts just about all the dust and dirt off, and dries too (though I'm afraid the dryer is gonna make my little aluminum hood fly off one day). It's not as effective as hand-washing, but it comes close enough for emergencies. I'll find out the name of the system and report back - it's worth checking out if you don't have the time to wash it yourself. (One neat thing about it - you don't have to aim your left front wheel at one of those sensor plates anymore - just roll in and stop.)
As far as the swirlmarks are concerned, there's a "how-to" video on the Meguiar's site about eliminating them with an orbital buffer.

the shell soft-cloth car washes are also pretty good. it doesnt dry the best (and be careful, about half of them push my roof in on the dryer) but it cleans just about everything well, save the wheels

Encountered my first "issue" with NXT this weekend. I washed and dried the car as always. When I had it back in the garage doing the detail work I noticed water spot rings on by roof, lots of them.
A little claybar to a small area took them out which I guess means the damage was merely to the wax.
Is this normal? I'm not "new". I've maintained plenty of cars extremely well. I'm concerned that maybe the NXT isn't very tough.
To be fair, I guess, it was a very sunny and almost hot day when I washed and dried the car. Perhaps sitting in the sun with some water on it until I got to drying caused the spotting. The spots looked a lot like acid rain, which completely freaked me out.

That's sort of my thinking too. I normally make sure to keep spraying the top surfaces while I'm washing.
The main thing that put me off was that the "spots" looked more like pits. That seemed awfully fast for pitting to occur. And since using the clay bar bore out that the pits were only in the wax I was led to question the protection the wax gives.

Well I can say that I live in one of the harshest acid rain areas in central GA...flight path for Atlanta Hartsfield, live on Robins Air Force Base where planes are flying constantly, and several other high pollution industries...with that said I have had nothing like this happen with the NXT Tech Wax. I have only used the booster spray once, but I have had perfect looking shine after a simple rinse and dry. If nothing else I would suggest start fresh with dawn wash, claybar, and one layer of NXT. Keep in mind it fully cures in about 24 hours, then rinse and booster wax/wash and booster wax as necessary.
This is my suggestion as a friendly amature NXT-er.

I have a black car, and spots are so easily noticeable, but the soap helps alot. NXT wax also has a bit of a dissolver in it, to clear away water marks...
