filler in megs products? i dont think so!
well after reading some post in another thread stating about how meguiars products contain fillers and thats why the pictures i posted showing before and after shots of swirl removal, i did a little research. i came across a similar thread on another forum saying how a certain meguiars polish - #80 speed glaze to be exact, had fillers that only hid scratches and not removed them.
here is a post which i believe debunks that statement.
it can be found here
post number 5 reads as follows:
begin quote:
Just to piggyback on what Aurora40 posted, correctly used, our cleaner/polishes like the M80 Speed Glaze remove swirls and scratches, they don't merely fill them in. Part of using a Meguiar's cleaner/polish correctly is choosing the correct product for the job, the other part is to work the product long enough to ensure all of the diminishing abrasives have been broken down.
I purposefully instilled swirls into the hood of our black Pilot and then using only M80 Speed Glaze with our W-8006 foam polishing pad on our G100 dual action polisher I machine cleaned the swirls out of the paint.
I then wiped the hood down with All Purpose Plus Cleaner followed by a strong solution of our Glass Cleaner in the Professional Line, followed by washing the hood with a detergent dish washing soap and then rinsed with water.
I think most people would agree that the above cleaning process will have successfully removed anything left on the finish by the M80 Speed Glaze.
I then moved the Pilot into the driveway in such a was as to capture the sun reflecting off the hood.
The swirls were completely removed, not filled in. The finish actually looked great, as though it had been waxed, yet it had just been tortured with two harsh chemicals and a detergent wash." end quote
there are other pictures in that post as well but this one clearly illustrates, in my view, the cleaning ability, not the filling ability, of a meguiars polish.

Perhaps you machined out the swirls completely, therefore negating the fillers at all? I'm not sure if M80 has any fillers, but from what I've seen, M83 does. Its not a bad thing, its just combining a glaze and a polish in one.
My point of my post in the said thread is, since it was a thread on Zaino, that Zaino does not bond well to any type of glaze or oils. You can get away with acrylic glazes with it, but not the oily type.
One last thing, and maybe you can answer me on this, and this is just an example. Meguiars NXT and NXT 2.0 are synthetic sealants. They contain no abrasives and have some very slight chemical cleaning abilities to aid with cleaning and bonding to the paint.
Lets look at what Meguiars says NXT does:
http://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-G-127.../dp/B0002UQATS
Eliminating fine scratches and swirls? But isn't this just a sealant, how can it ELIMINATE swirls?
Fillers!
Eliminate wouldn't be a good word for that either, it really should be "diminishes the look of swirls".
I'm not saying that is a bad thing, just two different methods. Either you can completely polish out imperfections or you can try and hide them....or a little of both.

Or instead of only using NXT you can combine it with Scratch X which removes the swirls and then NXT and you get even better results with no filling needed. Proof...Pics

as far as any product goes... all products leave something on the paint, its why and how you achieve desired results, whether it be rejuvenating the oils of old paint or leaving a layer of protection. if the product doesnt leave anything behind, there would be no change from before you applied the product, so why would you use it.
again to quote a meguiars expert from a thread found here:
begin quote:
The reason I ask is because I'm wondering if the expert that told you NXT Tech Wax contains fillers also mentioned that ANY wax, or paint sealant, or product with the name Polish on it when the product is designed to seal and protect the paint, if it's actually doing the job, then it's filling because by definition if a product is leaving a coating, or a layer of something, (wax or polymer or fill in the blank), then it's filling
How can a paint protection product not fill if it's leaving itself behind?
If it's not leaving any component of itself behind on the surface then you should probably stop using it because it's not working. end quote
How can you have a wax that leaves something behind on the surface but not fill or layer-over the same surface?
in response to your statement about #83, i have used 83 to remove defects on cars and then used a 50/50 solution of water/isopropyl alcohol to remove stubborn residue because the sun hit it and it had dried quickly. the panel was 100% swirl free which leads me to believe that either 83 does not have fillers or it does have fillers but all the scratches were mechanically removed, not filled

i have used scratch X and it has given me very good results. i dont always have to patience for applying coat after coat tho. i am teaching my little brother how to properly maintain a cars finish, and when we go to a job i make him do the scratch x lol... mainly under door handles and such. overall it probably the best hand paint cleaner readily available.
