I would be intereasted to know how much weight you can shed by taking out the back seats, i.e. the back cusion and the seat.

very little, they are really just cushions, no real heavy pieces.

The RX8 parts list shows two manufactures for the RX8 stock wheels.... On the back of the wheel on one of the spokes there is one of two stamps:

LM= U-Mold
H= Hitachi

I don't know if they were made simultaneously or if they changed over from one year to another.

I have the Hitachi and just weighed them with no center caps, TPS or wheel weights. On a digital scale I got 22.5lbs. I feel this number is pretty much right on as I also weighed on the same scale the OZ Ultraleggera, with cap and stem at 18.5lbs, the TireRack list the OZ at 18.4lbs.

Could be the U-Mold is lighter.

p.s. these are all 18X8 wheels.

Off of Wiki

2888-3029 lb MT
3053 lb AT

I suppose the differences are sunroof, seats, DSC, Nav if you have it, Bose and extra speakers, CD changer, wiring, etc. I suppose it could add up to a 141 lbs. Then add a driver, 150 to 200lb and a full tank of gas at about 95 lb you are starting off at about 250 to 300 lb heavier. So with my Base I am probably at about 3183 (6'3" 200lb) and with full fuel.

When I test drove the Base and two Shinkas, which would probably be the heaviest, there was a difference to me in performance with one passenger. When I have one passenger in my Base model I don't notice it as much as having two passengers. To me there is a noticible difference in acceleration with more than one passenger. Maybe I should just put them on diets or maybe go on one myself!

If I remember correctly aproximately 65 lbs should make about a tenth of a difference in 1/4 mile time so if I just put about 5 gal of gas in the tank (15.9 capacity I think), I should do .1 better.

Take em out and weigh em. Actually every little bit helps since shedding weight is the easiest way to gain performance. Reading Hot Rod magazine about the Solstice build with the Vette engine, they even drilled weight reduction holes in the battery box.

How much fuel did you have in it. If the Wiki is right at 2888 then you would have had about 12 gal in it.

I have the base model with nothing on it. Opps, sorry, I added the spoiler and tint so maybe I am a little heavier than I said before.

does anyone know how much the stock doors weigh? both the front and rear? I'm thinking of getting some carbon fiber ones that weigh in at 12lbs if the the weight loss is significant it would be worth purchaseing because its weight from the center of the vehicle so it wouldnt have much affect on the front to rear weight distribution.

I believe I mean the bumper cover...In other words if I were to remove my front bumper to install the oil cooler screens...I guess that would be the bumper cover.

Quick question about the stock hood. Up top it says "Stock Aluminum Hood - 15lbs", but i've seen and heard slightly different weights. So my question is how much does a stock RX-8 hood weigh?

Moon roofs usually add about 40lb to a car, but obviously that is tough to weigh.

"bumper reinforment 15.6lbs" What is that? Do you mean the piece of metal welded to the frame that black plastic block clips to, below the VDAF, which gives shape to the bumper?

first of all, awesome thread brillo.
apart from that, the moonroof adds all this weight on the top of the vehicle... and something else, in the first post you don't state the weigh of the stock flywheel. I weighed mine 7.6kg but most ppl say its about 17pounds

cavemancan: I will remove my front bumper soon and I will weight it. I'll post it here...
