That's actually how I had a self made system set up several years ago. Never had a problem.

ST runs Tues-Wed. It will be interesting to see the fallout.

I wonder if the STAC can issue a Tech Bulletin at nats, making brackets leagal for ST*.

Technically no can do; that would be a rule change.

Jeezus dude, take the f'ing bracket off already. If you're smart you don't even need a zip tie.

Regardless, there is a paragraph in the opening section of 13.0 that discusses the use of hardware fasteners and it specifically permits the use of safety wire without listing any restriction for its use.

Thanks for the help Mark, I appreciate it. Unfortunately, my fabrication skills are such that I'm reluctant to try such a mod at this point, but I'm sure you'll work it out.

This does seem to be the year of electrical problems for me. My PC680 finally died today after 3 seasons, but fortunately I can get one locally.

Cool! Subscribed to your blog. It will probably be more of a NASA TTD config, but I still like to autocross.

Kill switches work wonders. I put one in the BMW a little over a year ago and it's saved me a few times with long stretches of non-use of the car.

I may look into that, but I think I have a different problem. I put the new battery in last night, verified it was at full charge, and then checked the voltage this morning before I started the car. According to Odyssey's literature, the battery lost 50% of it's charge over night. I suspect I have something that is sucking more current than is typical when the car is off.

Oh, and I found a small bolt in one of my street tires. Why does this crap happen before nats?

make sure you put nickel-based high temp anti-seize on those muffler canister fasteners or you'll be drilling them out later

If anyone out there has the Racing Beat front swaybar with their oversized endlinks - be very careful trying to add an additional (stiffer) hole to the swaybar. If you put the new hole too far forward, the endlink will contact the shock body and prevent the suspension from compressing.

Yes, I learned this the hard way.

It will hit with the OE endlink in the same scenario.

I'm off to Blytheville tomorrow for the Tri-State Challenge/Tour event this weekend. Couple other RX-8s entered that I don't recognize. First event since Nats with no changes other than running the Toyos rather than the Hankooks since the weather forecast is on the cool side. So I'm interested to see how the car handles here as compared to Lincoln where it suddenly had more oversteer than I had ever experienced any where else all year.

They added another new Tour event at the end of October at the Nashville Speedway. Not sure that I will go because it is several more hours further east than Blytheville, but figured Id talk to some people about the site and see if it's worth the drive (assuming there's a class of 5+). They will be using the infield road course and part of the oval track. I remember Eric Meyer posting vids of his front suspension slamming hard at the oval transition. Not sure I would care for that.

boxed myself in by coning the first two runs and rather than cone out the first day once again I pussyfooted around (too much so) on my third run. The Honda pretty much has the win in the bag. Due to the low turnout they gave us a 4th freebie run; the Honda spun, I got a lot closer, as did the other RX8s. Then Mathew Braun jumped in my car to take a run and he was within a tenth or two of the Honda his first run ever in the car with it still a bit on the loose side. The kicker was he thought he could knock off another second with several more runs in the car. Guess I need to quit whining and start driving ...

Thanks, but the car is still too loose for me to hammer down the times it's capable of. Should have been at least one second faster today. I'll try a red dot Auto rear bar with soft rubber bushings next. If that doesn't tame it enough I'll have to up the front spring rate.

Carter's RX7 is wicked fast and of course he's an awesome driver too. I'd love to duplicate his setup on my RX8 for a run at SM.

I am looking to set up my Rx8 for Autocross next year and currently have blown rear shocks (60,000 miles). So I think the best place to start is the coilovers.
I do all the work on my car and will install them myself and set up the alignment.
I have been looking at a few and what to know if anyone has used them, I obviously want the best quality are a reasonable price. I want the coilovers so I have maximum adjustability to dial in the car, here are the coilovers that I am thinking about.

KW Varient 3 - Seem quite expensive but great quality
Mazdaspeed Coilovers - these are about the same price as the KW3 and higher spring rate (I have been told they are probably over priced for the product and manufacturers have tight specifications to meet)
Stance Coilovers - Seem a lot cheaper then the KW-3 will they be almost as good.
Bilstein PSS9 - Quite a few people seem to be running these
Tien - Cheap and cheerful, are these going to be much better than stock?

The KW3 are what appeals to me but they are a bit more expensive then I would like to pay. Any suggestions for better cheaper coilovers kits.

I am currently running in CS and very competitive against the field which a stock RX8 on Starspecs/Ventus RS3 Tires. I would like a good set of coilovers to help get me to the top of the table.
