The STX thread!

Thanks for the info! Hopefully once I clean the oil up from the OMP gasket, I won't have anymore oil drips, but if I do then i have a reason to get really dirty and check out FMS - only thing that could sling as much oil.

Thread bump. Managed to pull off a win at the Peru Champ Tour. Herbst true pace was around 0.5 sec faster than anything I could do, but he ran into cone trouble on day 2.
Day 2 mine car started throwing P0076 and felt kind of flat, so looks like I'll be replacing that solenoid.
Very tight...between him coning, the P0076 situation, and holding off another car. Somehow managed that gap just right...more like it just kind of fell into my lap.
Car is a '05 GT with Mazdaspeed coilovers, NC Miata Hotchkis front bar, and 17x9 with Rivals S 1.5. Rest is bone stock..so I'm sure I'm leaving some out there with light weight stuff, tunes, cat, etc.

I will for sure be doing some offset bushings for the front though. I'm at -2.5 deg camber up front...it sure feels like it could use more.

Is the 0076 code for one of the 3 solenoids under the UIM? If so, I have 2 used ones that work perfectly well, I'd be willing to send one your way for a couple of bucks. Those things new are kind of 'spensive.

Good stuff. And Barret won Charlotte earlier this year, so you did well!

I'm just glad the car decided to give me another clue to my random misfire I had the week before. I'd feel this dead zone in power, and would get random misfires on both chambers. Checked everything I could in this past week, nothing wrong. Hopefully the SSV laggy/no opening is what caused all this.

Well it depends on how it’s failing. Obviously not getting VDI to open is going to affect top end from around 7500 rpm, but if it doesn’t hold vacuum the solenoid tank could get low/empty and also result in the SSV not functioning properly. Which is going to reduce/kill power from 4000 rpm up. Kind of a double whammy.
I have plenty of spares and will gladly send some your way. Please send me your address.

Had a great weekend with the car - got some concrete testing done up at Marina, and my local club got to break in a new site. Car is working pretty well, I am nervous to make any changes....

AEM Intake, Modified for STX
OK, so I have a pretty good idea of what to do to make an AEM Intake legal for STX. But, what about the factory waffle tray thing below the stock airbox that the box snaps into? Is that considered part of the intake or part of the cooling system? Can it come out and remain STX legal? Thanks!

Hi everyone. Building an STX-lite car Tuned my car using VersaTuner (so thanks to everyone that posted info about that, was pretty easy), bought some wheels, did some suspension stuff, replaced the engine (prior engine melted the bearings out of it but had good compression ) took takeoff tires from my STR car and ta-da.
My car has crappy Tein lowering springs for an S1 on S2 Bilsteins so the rake is a bit ridiculous. Coilovers ordered and I went with fairly soft springs. I already have Hotchkis bars front and rear, we'll see how it goes. Similar spring bias front:rear on the new coilover setup and with the bars on full soft front and medium rear it was *loose* in the wet with the current springs. Bump stops are literally disintegrating and chunks of bump stop seem to fall out every time I jack the car up, so that's really neat... Looking forward to the coilovers, I'll just say that.
Already have Mazda Motorsports offset upper arm bushings, went through all of the hell of cutting the seized alignment adjusters, etc. In theory all I need to do is bolt on the coilovers, set ride heights, align it, and then play with bars, shock settings, ride heights and see what works. Love the car so far and looking forward to playing around in STX when not running the STR car, the RX-8 is a ton of fun!

I ran the RX-8 for the first time today. Pulled off second in PAX and won STX! It's kind of a hot mess suspension wise, lowering springs on blown stock shocks, but if you drive it like an H Street Civic it's kinda ok? It does sweepers really well but transitions like crap.
My fastest clean run:
My fastest dirty run (a few tenths faster but mostly got luckier with the car doing what I wanted:

Sounds similar to my car. Owned for one year now and considering looking for a second after just selling my STS Miata. Current car is a 05 shinka which came with Tein stech lower springs and stock replacement shocks. I added second set of 17x9 wheels and rs4 tires, and swapped out driver seat so I could fit with helmet. I have been enjoying track days and trackcross events with it. Now I'm looking at a lite STX prep, potentially on a second, less useless features, model.
Did some mods thanks to my girlfriend. I love that the included washer is large now to prevent the sinking mounts concern. Essentially no NVH increase and way nicer to drive. I still need to do the diff mount bushings eventually, but that can come later. My coilovers are in production now, getting excited for 2021 season, though I plan to keep running my STR car.

Mind if I ask which coilovers setup you went with? I took the plunge during Black Friday on Redshift singles and versatune. Not looking to win any championships, but still want something to improve fun factor. I'm sure some control arm bushing work is in my future as well as a midpipe for trackdays to save my cat for when needed. For now, I think that'll be it for me.

Yep, WDCR is my home region. Used to run a red 90 Miata.

I went with Shaftworks USA, they're custom built from... some sort of cheapo shock. Fancy internals, custom shafts, blah blah. 4.5" stroke up front and 5.3" rear. I went with 12k/8k springs but I can always go up in spring later. They shipped today, so hoping to get them installed in the coming weeks.

I ended up starting with 700/550 spring rates. 4.5" stroke both front and rear. I see shaftworks won't have crosstalk with adjustments. Don't think that'll be the case for me.
