agreed. figured it was one of those potpourri questions. I just wasn't sure if there was some sort of norm like 'you should always be going down in pressure not up'.

everybody always wants the easy answer (not you, just in general), in general everything almost always just depends and the answers are often complex

I hear ya. Glad I got to actually try it vs taking someones word for it. Now if only these things would wear faster so i can have an 'excuse' to get some better tires lol.

and 19 registered for the Pro Solo

With so much good/new competition it's hard to say what will happen. Will likely be a miracle to not be picked up and dropped in the Land of Oz on our the drive up I-35 tomorrow ... going right through where the tornado slammed Moore, OK yesterday. Wet weather could play into either event as well. Looks like it will be a lot cooler than last year too. Glad I'm not on Hankooks and have a spare set of Michelin PSS for deep rain.

You guys mind if I keep asking some questions (even though I am not STX)?

So my autocross is a somewhat tight course. This past weekened we had a race at Mohegan Sun, and although the course had some straights, it was still a tighter course than what i believe most of you do (at least from talking to people in other states/groups). Here is an example:

Now this run netted me 2nd place in DSP, but to be honest that isn't saying much because we had a pretty low turnout (only 5 cars). Thanks to a member here, I recently got a new alignment, and it just felt fantastic on the track .. I had a lot more confidence, and overall a better feel for the car:

front Camber: -2.75
Caster: 8.5
Toe: 0

Rear camber: -2.4
Toe: 0.16 in

I am also running stance coilovers with swift 11k(f)/6k(r) and dampening to mid(f)/soft-mid(r). I have swaybars (progress tech, I know ... i should have stayed stock) at their softest settings f/r.

Now, I know a lot of people run without a rear bar, but from what I am reading, that is just going to give me some more understeer, which might not be good for the tighter courses that I run. (in the video, there is a section where they literally had a small ring .. not typical though)

Ideally, wider tires, stickier tires ... but until I can afford that I am essentially stuck with my RE050A's on stockers.

Now I know that you guys will say that only I can really tell what my car needs because it is all based on the driver.... but from experience, do you all see anything "wrong" with my setup? I hope that makes sense.

Btw: Broda, THANKS so much for those emails... they have been very helpful and if the last event was any indication of future events, my confidence level is surely on its way up.

That has to be the worst designed autocross course I have ever seen! I know it was a small lot but the design could have been better.

You want a rear bar, most of us have the oem one or similar. Just get some seat time at a better site, your not going to learn/improve much at a site like that.

Next time keep it in 1st gear for a course like that as you never broke 40mph. It will help the car turn in better on the slow corners thanks to the engine braking and give better acceleration. Not sure what the spread was but if it was close you left it out there.

Raining this morning in Lincoln so we're all likely stuck in position. Was hoping to make a charge this morning with a swaybar change. Car was too loose yesterday and tire pressure/shock adjustments weren't enough to tame it for afternoon runs. Strano is out for the morning runs so Sparky and I could have had a shot at getting past him.

looks like it's back to the drawing board for some spring rate and suspension setting changes WRT figuring out the Lincoln site surface. Seemed like the car picked up a ton more front grip than rear on that surface with the BFG tires and there was simply too much oversteer from mid-corner to exit without having the parts with me to make the necessary corrections. Even if it had been dry Sunday AM not sure I would have improved any at the Pro. DNFing my last run at the Tour was the bitter icing on the sour plum cake. I really expected to have finished better overall so it was a bit disappointing in that regard, but better to find out now rather than in September ...

DC Pro was a blast. Having 12 runs, side by side with Corey driving the Simmons beast was great. We were back and forth all weekend. I spent a good deal of time Sunday AM looking at video after carefully walking the left hand course. I knew where I was getting it wrong and for the first time at a big event, I was able to actually do what I knew I needed to do.

Simmons got the shaft on Saturday morning with a 10 minute rain shower hitting at the perfect time to ruin his runs. I think that is the reason we didn't see him challenging. Corey and I had a leg up with 4 dry runs letting us really feel out the course.

Dave T set me up with a great car and thanks to him for letting me take it down for the event. It sucks not having your co-driver there, but at least I can bring his car home with some hardware, cash and tires.

This Pro thing is damn addictive. Kicking myself for giving up on running Toledo! Pro Finale, if I get in is going to be epic.

I have some thoughts on the Rivals following this weekend, but I want to review data before giving bad info. What I do know is that they are damn near as fast coming out of grid as they are after 2 runs getting them up to temp. I was blown away with their performance this weekend.

Guys I was looking at the rulebook and need clarification on something.

Prior to getting interested in scca solo, I installed a 2011 r3 4.77 rear diff onto my 2005, does this put me out of stx?

I saw in the rulebook that for 2wd stx class cars that " any LSD unit may be used" but are they strictly talking about torque distribution and specifically not addressing the ring and pinion?

elsewhere in the rules it said you couldn't swap for superior gearing unless the original gear set was no longer produced.

I just want to know if I'm going to build my car to stx standards if that's the first thing I need to change.

Thanks gents

A gear ratio change sends you straight to DSP or SM. STX allows for switching of LSD to whatever you want, but that is independent of final drive.

Outside of it being a royal pain, I believe you can find a used pre 2009 complete rear diff with torsen for a few hundred bucks. Put in Delrin Bushings at the same time! Back to STX and you get much better than stock bushings on the diff to chassis bracket!

i love this thread. Thanks to the content here, i ran my first few runs of the day yesterday with my rear bar. The subsequent runs I did with the bar disconnected and holy hell what a difference.

Thanks gatorbait, sadly my stock diff went out the door with the written off R3 that I got the 4.77 from, I guess I'm out of stx until I get it changed, I'm really just in it for fun for now though so i dont mind being noncompetitive in a higher class, maybe next year ill get more serious about the competitive side and build to suit.

Really nice driving Jeff. You were fast right out of the blocks Saturday. It was fun watching you and Corey fight back and forth for the win.

Lets see if any of you guys can help me with the problem I am having..

Whenever the car is started, after 2 minutes it will stall, and it will keep stalling in neutral until it has been driven for about 15 minutes, and you have to hold the idle above 1k rpm's to keep it from stalling. After it is warmed up(15 min) or so it will not stall, it will fluctuate between 1k-1750-1k-1500-1k-1250 then back down to 1k for a while...

The tuner at Motion Lab has been working with it and the Accessport after the car has been running for so long and is warm, it's hard to say if the changes he made fixed the problem, until the next cold start...
