Stock RX8 vs. Modded RX8
Before you ask my mods are in my sig......
And yes, I know street racing posts are not allowed on this forum, so I don't know how long this'll be here. Moderators, forgive me, but there really isn't anywhere else to post this and I figure people might want to know.
2 runs......roll on @ 20mph in 1st gear. Both cars are manuals.
Run #1: My car wins by a gap of over 2 1/2 car lengths before the end of 3rd gear. Saw him in both mirrors. *edited to make Ike happy*
Run #2: This one was supprising at first. The stock 8 hung with me through 3rd gear. Stayed at my door the whole time.
So what do we learn from all of this? *edit* My foot tastes like chicken.
One of these days I'll take a few days off work to run it at moroso and post some timeslips.

What is it you think you did to gain 30-40hp (Rear-Wheel!?) to your RX-8? Or should I say, to go from 238->280 HP?
... I'm going to have to pull up the 'clueless/BS' flag on this one.

The mods I have are stated by their manufacturers to give about 10hp each. Manufacturer's claims are mostly BS. I can doctor a dyno run just as well as they can. When I dynoed my car with intake, midpipe, and catback I only put down 170 to the ground. Same as what a stock 8 put down on the same dyno I tested on. But, the gap between my car and the stock 8 would be consistent with an aproximate 30hp gain over stock.
*edit* and I'm certainly NOT clueless.

He probably had the advantage in the driving department, since his tranny is still in good shape and mine...well......isn't, after the incident I had a while back. Besides that, there's not a whole lot of skill in racing from a roll.
And you may be right about the mods. Hell, my dyno pulls say you ARE, but my experiences show me there's a little bit more power there somewhere. But since my experience doesn't equate to a nice power graph, I'll concede the point to you.
As far as knowing what heat soak is and getting a turbo............no thanks. Been there, done that. A 70 mile daily commute in an rx7 is not fun in florida.
I'll find another stock 8 to run, just in case he got a bad one from the factory. I'm gonna try to find someone with the CZ stage one, or other fuel tuning computer to see how that goes as well. Believe me, I'm not just saying "hey I won twice, that means my car is a lot faster than a stock 8." This was just my experience today. Take my post for what it's worth, which is just a little experiment, and the results.

Well, all I have to say...is if you can get >40< HP from those few mods... my hat is off to you.
Now, back on earth... there's no way.. of, and FWIW, I have the stage-1 mod on my RX-8 and its still no where close to the performance of my S2000 (well..its "close", but won't win from any speed). So, don't count on the Stage-1 giving u a ton of power.
Now..back to math.. lets say u got 40hp..thats about 16% increase in HP.. highly unlikely for N/A. Now, lets also consider..if you had ~278 HP, you would most likely destroy any RX-8 from any speed (as he would be in the same gear, assuming similar drivers, similar start times, etc.)
I think its realistic to assume your not getting the +30 to +40 hp the manif's claim :-( If it were true, however, I'd be right behind you getting those mods.

Start from 10mph in 3rd or 4th (10mph might be a tad too low for 4th)... And just 3 honks and WOT... takes a lot of the 'driver error' out of it, though its a lot more boring for the first 20-40 seconds :-)
..but seriously, thats probably a better way to compare two RX-8's instead of banging gears.

If he wants to compare appls to appls... the idea was to eliminate a lot of the driver error (ie. shift points, miss or slow shifts, shifting at different rpms, etc..).. hence the suggestion to start from 3rd at 10mph.

I'd recommend a roll-on from second, if you want to account for the effect of the flywheel. The effectiveness of a lightened flywheel is directly proportional to the angular acceleration of the crankshaft - in other words, you'll notice it most in first, less in second, and in third it might be imperceptible. That's how it worked out in my Miata.
So, a second gear run from 1500 rpm to redline would work well if you want to account for the flywheel but eliminate shifting errors.
