It's all good. I've basically memorized certain parts of the wiring diagrams at this point.

I'm liking the car a lot more with more rear spring rate and the OSG diff.

Wow, great work! What difference do you feel in the diff?

 

It feels largely the same on corner entry, but on corner exit (on power) the car is far more predictable. I think this is due to the aggressive lockup characteristic of the diff when on power. It creates a slight on-power push until the drive wheel traction is exceeded, at which point the car tends to a slight oversteer condition. It's much more like I'm used to and makes the car very easy to drive quickly.

so you still have the factory ecu in place for some of the other functions?

Then I’m thinking you should be able to flip the two climate control wire pins being discussed in the other thread at the ecu plug rather than under the dash where you can’t reach them.

I do not have the factory ECU. It's not needed for anything.

I ended up just applying 12V and ground to the appropriate pins so the airflow motor rotated to the defrost position.

 

Did you win the Pro Solo S1 Class Championship? I can’t find a final tally any where. The media coverage seems to be rather light this year.

 

Sam won the Championship. I was 2nd. Shelly won L1.

Yes, kind of a lame season. The entire system failed at the Charlotte Pro in March. The Pro series was then shut down until Bristol (July 4 weekend). So there was no way to equitably have a points series and they made the Finale winner take all.

Even Mazda Motorsports didn't know this. When I went to submit contingency claims I wasn't sure how to request payment ... turns out they aren't sure either

 

Yeah I spent a while on the phone with them yesterday trying to sort it out, if I hear anything back I'll let you know.

 

I received an e-mail today as I suspect you did; they are not awarding money for the points championship since there wasn't one.

Yeah, I was surprised that Hoosier paid out for both the finale and the "overall"... but Hoosier has always been ultra generous. I'm just happy Mazda still pays out for this stupid hobby we do. I didn't exactly have a stellar year and still got like $1300 from them :D

 

Two things I'm looking at - first, do you have any more pics of how your trans crossmember mates with the chassis? Did you weld on the chassis or just bolt it?

Second, I'm trying to figure out your final fuel system configuration. I see:

- S2 fuel basket
- - Converted to return-style with the return dumping back into the basket
- - flapper hole drilled out from 5/16" to 3/8", plunger arm modified for more swing
- - DW300 drop-in fuel pump
- - Basket bottom removed, https://www.holley.com/products/fuel.../ 11mm outlet) installed directly to fuel pump (does this negate the need to drill out the plunger hole?)
- - OEM jet pump removed, Radium Venturi pump installed

At this point you had issues with the stock wiring delivering enough voltage to the fuel pump.

So then you added a Radium surge tank with its own pump/wiring/FPR going into a returnless fuel rail.

Is that where you are today?

 

trans cross member bolts to the frame rail reinforcements which have weld nuts in them.

Fuel system is an unmodified s2 fuel hat feeding a radium surge tank. In the passenger side of the tank I have a small low pressure lift pump with a Holley hydramat to transfer fuel to the fuel hat. All the passive jet pump stuff is removed. The surge tank has a built in AEM pump and pressure referenced regulator which feeds a dead head rail through an ethanol sensor. The surge tank pump is fed by a direct feed from a dedicated relay which is switched from the stock fuel pump wiring.

It's massive overkill but I can run it until the tank is literally bone dry

 

Great info, thanks. Are your rail reinforcements a purchased part or did you fab them?

 

Mine are V8Roadsters parts. In retrospect, I should have just fabricated them, but I didn't and still don't have a sheet metal brake capable of forming something like this (they're made from ~ 14ga steel). But V8R was a pain in the *** to purchase from, so I doubt I'd go that route again.

I’ve posted an alternative source that uses an aluminum brace which bolts on without the extra reinforcement and I’ve never heard of it ever having an issue.
