You might want to cut Banannie some slack. She has dirven and raced both cars involved in this discussion. It's attitudes like yours that drive good people away from sites like this. Who gives a rip if you want to to see how the Carrera GT stacks up against your daddy's partner's Enzo.

I've driven a 964 turbo on a track and a 996 Carrera on the street and I have to totally disagree about the easy to drive fast statement. I know of few cars that will bite you in the *** like some of the past 911s will if you push things too far or make a mistake. When I did a lot of track days when I was younger it seemed like it was always the 911s that ended up in the barrier or grass.

Edit: What the hell happened to the post this was a response to, I could have sworn I used quote.... <grumbles> Was someone telling some tall tales by chance?

I'm calling you on this. Come to the 2005 SCCA Solo National Championships (that's the 2004 link; the 2005 link isn't up yet) with your RX-7. I'm willing to bet you US$1000 that, if both your run group and AS/BS run in the dry, someone in an AS S2000 or a BS 968 will beat your time.

PM me and we'll work out the details.

great,,,, so wat do you want a cookie :p .........while we are off topic I actually love porsche....they r the easiest cars to drive ridiculously fast.....I am part owner of The collection of Fine Cars in Toronto and let me tell u that I have driven it all and the best streetable race car is the 911 turbo by far......I love it but I really love the carrera gt which one of my closest friends is awaiting delivery for this spring...... It will also be an interesting matchup with my dads partners' enzo......can't wait :D

You're killing me, man... as others have mentioned I may be a girl but I have two SCCA National Championships and a ProSolo Championship, as well as some road racing honors. I'm definitely not trying to argue with you over the capabilities of a 911. My posts were to a few specific people on this thread that I will be racing with this year, pure & simple, just to get some friendly competition going.

And as others have said, it's people like you that drive away people having good discussions...

you're probably just afraid that you'd get your butt kicked by a girl...

buh bye

y is everyone taking this so personal? I am really getting a kick out of this thread and for the record I have no doubt about your racing abilities..... my own mother raced mini coopers back in the late 70's at mosport.......you just seem too quick to put down the 8s handling abilities when you raced it stock.....meanwhile your s2k can barely beat it stock for stock,,,, and that is what the s2k was made for......

newayz ciao bella :p

Let me get this straight -- you want me to drive over 4000 km from Seattle to Toronto just to get you to shut up, or alternately pay you $25k to shut up? No. Drive to Topeka in September, just like I'm doing. The distance from Toronto to Topeka is barely half the distance from Seattle to Topeka.

Like I said, PM me if you're serious. Otherwise, I'll just assume you're posturing and won't bother replying.

What about if an RX-8 beats the 968 or RX-7?? :D I think the 968 is a has-been in BS. Sure, they won some National Championships in the past.. bah. And the Eagles have won before too... But they didn't get the job done. Hehehe.

I agree.. he needs to come down from Toronto to come play in Topeka. Toronto is even closer to KS than where I live in Mass.

I'll be happy to donate $100 to Steve if he loses to help defray the cost of the loss... but that ain't gonna happen.

(You know I'm kidding about the has-been comment right? Heck... the past National Champ 968 driving MM is in my region. :D )

Oh, and to the girl with the championships, whats ur secret? how u get so fast? i'm a beginner and i'll take tips from anyone that will help, girl or not. :D

Ok, here's some on hand experience.
At the Honda S2ki event at Calf. Speedway here's what happened.
Beginner class.
1 Focus, 3 WRX, 1 Civic, balance S2000. Most were stock, some had suspension, one had a S2000 had a supercharger.

Rx8 can out handle in the corners. In the straight the S2000.
One guy was really fast and we went back and forth. He pass me and spin out. I pass him and slide a little too much comming on to the straight etc... We went back and fourth.

I believe the 8 is better but I got the swaybars.
No way can you compare the 8 to a WRX or S2000 with a good driver. They have too much power on the top end.

Bottom line who is the better driver, and how long are the straightaways.

You're comparing a couple of noob drivers though. In the hands of good drivers the S2K will outhandle the RX-8. The S2K is more twitchy than the RX-8 so with inexperienced drivesr it's reasonable that the RX-8 will seem to handle better, but it doesn't! :p

You're just killing me with "evidence" like this. You have two drivers who get confused about which end of the car is supposed to go first, and you conclude from this that the RX-8 is better in the corners than the S2000? And you don't even know how the other car was set up?

Right....

Just to reiterate, stock for stock, with drivers of good ability and skill in each car, there is no track or autocross course on which one would expect the RX-8 to beat the S2000. Sure, in one race, anthing can happen, but the S2000 is lighter, more powerful, has more torque (the 2004-05 versions), sprung tighter, faster and corners better. That's fact.

There's nothing wrong with that--the S2000 costs significantly more than the RX-8, and is much more single-purpose? It would be quite a surprise if the RX-8 were a better performer, and it's not.

These cars are so alike, performance wise its crazy. Everyone says there's a lack torque but it makes up for in the RPM range.(which we all know) I believe we have another 1000 RPM's before we need to change gears. The handling of both cars are like no other. Their just too much alike for me to compare them performance wise. As for everything else such as looks, comfort, style, room, uniqueness, being one with the car and so on, the RX8 wins hands down in my eyes! And when you have a 4-5K price difference, comparing these two cars no longer becomes a subject matter.

The fact that one is a four-seat, four-door coupe, which lots of storage space, and one is a two-seat roadster might also help some people decide.

Or you could just get one of each; works for me! :p

Like I said I believe the RX8 is better but I got the sway bars.

Sure there were those people that had them on the S2000 but the differance was the drivers.

If I did not have my set up I don't what the results would be as I sure had more power in the tight corners.

But I know I could keep up with a S2000 using a stock RX8 in the corners.

If you plan on buying a car for the track a S2000 is a serious contender as the Z.

They were made that way from the factory.

I have hands on experience with both of these wonders ( RX8/S2000 ) . I owned a S2000 for 2 years "02" and a RX8 for 8 months "04" both black. I say that the S2K would have an edge cause the extra power, less weight, and much more at home at the track than the 8.

I moved on to a STi cause I needed something year round. If and when I have the extra money, I'll pick up back one of these babies again.
