I ran into Brad Bodaine (sp?) on the road the other day. He is a member of this list and has some mods on his RX8 suspension. I own an RX8 and haven't been "under" it yet, but was very surprised to hear that it did not have any way to change the ride height, especially to put some rake in the car. Does anyone have any experience lowering/raising the rear end by about 1-2 inches?

 

Why would you want to raise the *** of the car?
If you want to lower the car then buy a set of lowering springs.

Are there sportscars that can adjust ride height from the factory? I've seen it in SUV's, luxobarges, and exotics. But not sportscars.

 

Yes. Corvettes can (at least the C5's & C6's) as well as 911 GT3's. I'm sure they're a few other sportscars...

You would want to raise or lower the ride height of the car to help control the side to side weight transfer of the front and rear of the car. It is helpful for tuning the car's handling.

 

Yeah no kidding. I never heard of that before...but would you want to lower one end or the other. Lowering the whole car will benefit the most. Like everyone said lowering springs or coil overs, duh.

 

Coilvers( Stance GR, HKS HIPERMAX, TEIN FLEX, JIC) etc. Go buy some F/R sways( Racing Beat, Agency power, Progressive just to name a few). No, do not raise you ride height. What is helpful for your cars suspension tuning is going to the track and pushing it through each corner to the best of your ability. Not just aftermarket parts, Driver plays a big role.

 

Guys:

I just had a speed shop put coilovers on my car last month before the trip to Mid-Ohio. They corner balanced the car and adjusted ride height, obviously. We wound up dropping the front more than the back in large part due to geometry, tires, etc. It gave it a slight rake as a result. The car is very well balanced and it turns in like there is no tomorrow.

We dropped the car about 1.25"-1.5". The rear was less than a 1" drop. maybe .5-.7. The balance of the car is great, and have no worries about giving it a rake. The car likes it...a lot! Just keep the rear end soft so it sticks, and exits the corners well and puts the power down.

 

I had new Bilstein shocks put on my 05 rx8. The front end is now one inch higher than before. I have checked with Bilstein and they stated they should not make the car higher unless the spring seat is upside down. I have looked at this and it looks like it's going the right way,,,,thick part to the bottom. My front end ride height is 15.5 inches while the backs are 14.5. Can anyone tell me if this sounds about right or way off?

sounds like springs were not properly preloaded when you installed them.

My rx8 has been lowered but with the body kit I struggle with speed bumps I crnt find any stock parts for the car at a cheap price can somebody help me

 

on the the lower damper the spring seat is like a big nut that can adjust up or down the threaded shock body. The upper (stock) one is fixed in place.


If your car is lowered on threaded perches you can raise it back up to a height that works for you. Youlll have to look under the car and see if the bottom of your spring sits on what looks like a big nut over a threaded sleeve or shock body or if it sits on a solid 'plate'


Also if you want cheap stock parts, then do two SCCA autocrosses a year and you'll qualify for Mazda's motorsport support program and you can get parts directly from Mazda at dealer stock cost:
