Racing seats for tall people? - concerned about harness slot height

I'm 6'4" and autocross a fair bit and i've always hated how my head is kinked over in the sunroof hole. I just had my first track day the other day and it's ten times worse. By the end of a 25 min session my back was killing me!

I want to get seats that have more bolstering and give me more head room. Seats like this are easy to find but what i didn't know until yesterday is that i need a seat where the harness slots are above my shoulders. I would eventually like to get harnesses with a harness bar/cage since i intend on going to the track a lot more.

When i search for seats for tall people i usually see people concerned with head room not harness slot height. Any suggestions? So far i know of the Recaro Sports and Sparco Evo II Plus would work but i'd like a few more options.

Also, i'd like to find something that comes in red leather or vinyl so it matches the rest of my stock reb/black interior but this is just a minor concern. Recline-able would also be nice but i'm not opposed to fixed back

Thanks

You might want to look in a few of the Corbeau options.

I personally always ran Bride or Recaro seats. I'm 6'0" and had those in a Miata w/ roll cage.

I had to get the side mount brackets to make sure I had headroom to clear my cage.

All the guys that are 6'4" and above.....your seat is going to have to be bolted to the floor....using custom mounts.

I have a friend that's about 6'4" 220 lbs. and he has a Corbeau bolted to the floor in his Miata. Worked great for him.

Those seats dont look half bad actually. Is the quality good? I've never seen Corbeau seats in person.

I'll have to find the specs to the Sparcos and Recaros i was sitting in for a comparison but the seem to have a high back with the harness slots high enough.

I have the middle of the Corbeaux FX1 series (FX1pro_narrow; FX1_medium; FX1_wide because I have a fat butt. I'm only 5'10", I'm not sure about whether it gains any height as the width increases. I remove the butt pad to get an extra 1/2 inch of headroom. I like the seat but its too deep for a daily driver, its hard to get in and out of but it works good on track days.

I like those and they're cheap enough to keep my stockers and swap them out for track days.

Any idea how far the harness slots are from the seat cushion?

35 inches with the pad, 36 inches without the pad.

I've got the Bride Zeta III L on FG rails, and although this setup offers at least 2" more headroom than stock, it would not be a good choice for somebody over 6 feet tall. I'm 6'0", and my head barely passes the STX rule that the top of the seat is above the center of the drivers head (which seems like a good rule in general). Also, the shoulder harness slots are below my shoulders (which now has me concered, but I suppose I could just put the shoulder harnesses over the seat backs?). There is an XL version of this seat but I don't know what the dimensions are.

justjim, 35" is very generous - how tall is the seat itself? Most seats I have seen are about 34-35" from the bottom of the outer shell to the top of the seat.

Bride seats are my favorite but I keep reading that they're built for small Japanese men and wouldn't work for me. I need to find the dimensions on the XL you're talking about. I found a local dealer of bride seats so I may have go test out the small man theory.

Justjim - 36 inches is the whole seat back length according to corbeau's website. I need the harness slots to be at least 28 inches off the cushion.

Zeta III L is about 24-25" off the cushion, +1 perhaps if you take the bottom cushion out.

And, I like everything else about the Zeta III L. I have a 35" waist, with too much of that in the belly and the width is just about right. Snug but not super tight.

Yes, a lowmax seat + lowmax rail may just get Jantzen what he is look for from a headroom standpoint, but it's unclear if the height of the seatback for any of the Brides is adequate for a 6'4" driver. Perhaps a vendor will chime in here.

These Kirkey's worked well for me. But I wouldn't use them daily.

What if i only were 5'11" but with large shoulders and dorso? I thought about some Sparco Pro2000 plus (L size) or the smaller Rev plus (lighter but with very thin\small back space).
I could be able to use them with some memory fab brackets too.

We might also want to discuss harnesses sooner or later, with rear only cages or proper holding hooks bolted to where the rear seats should be!

A quick follow up on the Bride Zeta III L: If I pull the seat cushion, I drop a little lower in the seat. This puts my head comfortably below the top of the seat, and puts the shoulder harness slots at what seems to be a reasonable level, although they are still a little lower than I'd prefer. When competing in Solo II at the national level, and/or track days, I'll probably pull the cushion just to be safe.

So, for people who are over 6' tall, or have a longer torso, the Zeta III L is probably not a good choice.

My bad its 25 inches to the belt slot, 26 inches to the slot without the butt pad. the 36 inches is to the top of the seat.
