hey guys im trying to get my rx8 into racing something like drag racing or autocross what do i need to do to get started

Drag race the RX8? You have the wrong car unless you want to do an lsx swap into it. I would look into autocross, see about local clubs in your area that may be able to help you out. BIG +1 on checking out SCCA, that should be a good start for you.

 

These cars don't like to be drag raced...find a local autocross group and go from there. You won't need anything besides the stock car/brakes/tires and $20-$40 bucks to get started.

 

For autocross, you will likely be required to supply your own helmet, unless you can get a loaner. I don't know about drag racing, you may not be required. I have never drag raced, so I'm not sure. There was a time when it wasn't required for cars under a certain speed.
In either case, as long as the car is in good mechanical shape, no modifications are necessary to compete.
