Its not a matter of faking the sensor, its more complex than that, the senor actually tells the airgbag how to accelerate accoriding to the distance and position of the seat,,,

This is indeed the milion dollar question, my Mazda tech was even going to give me his resistor blanks that are a Mazda tool, however this did not even work,,,,

I almost bought Corbeau seats (FX1 i believe they're called) but the leather ones were still pretty pricey ($750-800 i think). For the extra bling factor Status has i figured i'd spend the extra $400+. Then i got talked into the Carbon seats and my logic was tossed out the window

oh well, it happens.

I've never sat in corbeau seats but i've seen quite a few of them at track days and autocrosses. They seem pretty good quality when you compare them to the expensive stuff.

I wanted Cobra Suzuka's but they wanted like $3000 per seat because red leather would be a custom order and in addition to all the customization costs they would charge me $200 per seat to ship them from the UK. I said

So does this mean if the airbag deploys and it doesnt know where your seat is it could be a dangerous situation?

I have the Junior. Its like one size up from the Sprint 5. I could fit a Sprint 5 but eh it wasnt comfy. Only thing thats pretty lame is they look like eBay rip off sparco because sparco is painted to the head rest. I didnt want to drop 750-1200 on a Bride LowMax than not like it.

I think I paid just shy of $375 for seat+sliders. Made my own bracket of course. Wasnt about to pay $150 for a bracket that gave me a position I didnt like.

Looks like time for that quick release wheel Chris. I love mine and I only been using it for a few hours. Makes getting out of my car like im coming out of a caddy.

not sure why anyone would get leather on a fixed back seat but to thine own self be true ...

How much head room did you gain and did you have to modify the mount?

The brackets were highly modified. I must have remade them at least 3 times to get the desired clearance.

I think and I would go with (I wouldnt pick leather but) leather in a bucket seat because its comfy, looks great, keeps that rx8 interior look and I can buy that.

Those seats look great and work with your interior very well. Talk about having your cake and eating it too!

If you happen to take out one of the seats & brackets again, please weigh the whole contraption. I wouldn't be surprised if everything weighed in closer to 25lbs.

This did end up costing me more than i thought it was going to but i had very specific reasons for everything i wanted
  • I wanted a pair of seats (not just one like a lot of people do)
  • I wanted something in red leather (Leather for durability and red because it's my favorite interior color -- for sports cars at least)
  • I needed a tall seat so i could get a harness over my shoulders (i'm 6'4")
  • The stock seats are some of the best looking stock seats i've seen so i didn't want to get something that looked worse
  • I wanted to use them as a daily driver and on the track (no swapping)

As you can see, finding a seat that was the right size that was available in the materials i wanted that was a step up from the stock seats was pretty limited.

I didn't necessarily want carbon fiber seats i just got lucky and ended up with them. Vivid Racing had a special for a few days that i caught the tail end of. I had worked a deal on the same seats in FRP for $2050 shipped but the deal was that i could upgrade to carbon for $175 per seat(normally a $700+ upgrade per seat). I knew i would kick myself if i didn't do it so i splurged and got the carbon seats for $2400 shipped to my door.

I'm very happy so far.. I have a little tweaking to do with the driver's side positioning but it's pretty close to an ideal driving position.

Thanks for the comments guys!
How comfortable are these seats for daily driving? What's the longest drive you've done in the car thus far w/ the seats?

I think it will be 30lbs+. I made the brackets beefy for a reason. Safety.

Gotcha. I forgot that he had custom brackets made. I was thinking about the typical weight of brackets available commercially.

Today was the first long drive i've done in them. Before today it was just to work and back (10 mins each way). I drove around for a good 2 hours today and i never really got uncomfortable. I took my wallet out of my back pocket because it was making me kind of uncomfortable but other than that i was really surprised how comfortable they were.

I'm right on the cusp of a 34" waist so if you're any bigger i wouldn't recommend them. I'm 6'4" 217lbs BTW.

Supposedly Status is making a seat to fit 36" waists but i haven't seen anything official released about the seat yet. Might want to give them a call.
