Lower Seat

When I was on the track on Monday I found with a helmet the seat is just too high since my helmet kept getting stuck on the roof. I had to slowch in my seat so that I could turn my head. Is there anyway of modifying the stock rail, or does anyone have a good seat recommendation?

I was looking around the internet and found this seat which looks like it would hold me a lot better too. http://www.corbeau.com/products/fixe...seats/fx1_pro/

Also, in the past I remember seeing someone post a link for a company that made a bar that bolted in the rear passenger footwell that can be used for holding a harness. Anyone have a link for that?

Bride makes some low rails and lowmax seats as well.
Bride seats are overpriced for their quality though, i decided to use a cheaper and lighter sparco evo2 plus seat bolted without a rail (fixed).
That's because i didn't have the time to wait for some rails\bases.
All i had to do, aside from deciding the distance from the steering wheel, was to build 2 1.5cm clutch spacers to help me fully depress the clutch. This is subjective though.

The OE seat bottom has a lot of padding that could be trimmed out

This worked for me. Sliced out about 2", don't miss it. Also stuffed some material in the side bolsters to hold me snug. Sounds goofy but it works and costs nothing. Those stock seats are sure heavy but for just lapping play days who cares.

Yes, other than modifying the stock seats which form around a large lateral structural bridge on the floor there is nothing that doesn't require some surgery. The floor of the RX-8 is very uneven. I had to cut away at it quite at a bit to get a race seat mounted low enough to work.

I did it the other way around. I cut from the rail and reused the rear seat mounts with some little additional (ugly) welding.

Mind you that I did that for time reasons only, if i were to do that again i would probably buy some pre made sliders and mounts from bride or any other company

On this exact same topic (not fitting with a helmet in a car with leather and moon roof). Would replacing the leather seat with the cloth seat version work? Has anyone done this?

Or, which seat has proven to give more room in a car with moon roof?

There's really no reason to cut the floor unless your name is Herman Munster

^^2 I have been in one with cloth seats and a moon roof. Plenty of room.

But, it is not that hard to lower a leather one once you know how. The post above spells it out. Let me know if you have any problems.
