Looks like we'll be trying an R3 in B-Stock!

My question is whether the RX-8 comes with 19" wheels as standard. Of course, the R3 does, but it is an option. It seems that the rules come down to semantics because they don't really account for cars which have multiple wheel sizes from the factory. If they did, it would probably be too cumbersome anyways. Obviously at the local level, no one will (well maybe someone will) protest against wheels on a RX-8 that come on an RX-8. At the national level, do they actually differentiate trim packages and factory wheel options (good lord, Porsches must really complicate that one) to determine this?

The R3 option includes the 19" rims...you cannot order the R3 with any other rim size, 19" is all that is available. Period. Therefore, you have to run 19" rims if you choose to run the R3 model. The difference arises when you can order the same trim/package level with multiple wheel choices, aka Porsche, in which case you can choose which rim size would be most advantageous.

True - I meant to say trim package. Either way, for an '09 RX-8 R3 to run 18x8" wheels the owner would need to de-content the R3 to another trim level for which the 18x8" rims were standard. The same is true in reverse - an '09 base model RX-8 owner could add all the R3 trim package parts to their car (inlcuding the 19" wheels) and compete with the car that way.

I chose the R3 mainly for looks... the 19's are a liability, but not a big one. The gearing on the car is short anyway, so a taller tire isn't bad. And the Enkei RPF1 is 18.7lb, so the wheels are only about 1-2lb heavier, not a huge issue, IMO. I felt the car performed very well in the test/tune and will be competitive with the earlier model. I don't think it's any better or worse of a choice of RX8 to run - I just think it's beautiful!

1 piece of the puzzle doesn't make for a complete picture
I'd worry more about the driver and less about the model year
those pics bring back a lot of memories, wish I had never left the DFW area

I'm in agreement with you Sipe - only pointing a few of the '09/R3 pros to shipdriver. I definitely feel it'll come down to the driver between a '09 RX-8 and a '04-'08 RX-8. The real wildcard in BS right now is the 370Z...

Motons
Jason;
I have a 2009 Sport and I just got my Moton Club Sports from Moton last week. I should have them on by the end of the week. The dealer is fabricating aluminum ramps for the lower spring perch. The dealer is also making up adjustment cables for front & rears. Moton was given all the measurements for the stock shocks (not the Bilsteins) Moton sent the rears with a longer body.

There was never anything stopping Moton from making a longer set - but we have several sets laying around that are shorter - and people are selling them used at a good price. A set of spacers that make them work for stock class will be a good thing for everyone!
Good luck with them, if you have questions about settings let me know!

[QUOTE=Jason Saini;2904622]Who is your dealer? You probably won't be able to get the spring low enough in the back with a one-piece perch. If they have questions on how to get the perch to work, they can get a hold of me.
Small Fortune Racing in Mass. Bill runs the shop and is a long time autocrosser. He has it all planned out and the shock perch comes to the right height with the longer tube. Thank you for the offer of help.

Cool, Bill is a good guy and very smart. I worked with him years ago on the swaybar for our AS car. We're a Moton dealer too, and work very closely with them... I may just have one of our sets converted to the longer body, I have a set that needs to be rebuilt also.
Take care, and good luck!

This was a Stock class build, so they were required to use stock springs and shock dimensions matching the stock ones (with some small allowances).
