Looks like we'll be trying an R3 in B-Stock!

After owning various tow vehicles and beaters for the past several years while building up a road racing career, we're finally getting a nice car again. A Blue R3 is on the way, and we'll be setting it up/running it in B-Stock, time permitting - I'm so excited to actually have a decent autocross car again, and will be actively looking for events to start dialing the new beast in! Look for pics in this thread when we take delivery.

I've been wondering something, why does everyone do B-stock? Are the 8's not well suited for STU or STX?

edit* I do understand the rules for each class, that's why I ask. The 8 seems to be more well suited for STU...any info would be great.

For us, it's because we already do enough work on our MX-5 Cup cars and Koni RX8's! The last thing we want is another project... I am looking forward to the days of just changing tires and running the new 8 in B-Stock!

Awesome, be cool to see if the 09'+ is a better car, I am sure you will get the most out of it. It will also be good to run you when you have had some seat time.

Not STX legal until 2009... But either way, spend more money to go slower than a stock car. Sticky tires and very little prep can make for a BS winner.

Awesome news Jason. Welcome back to the class. Please update this thread with those pics *especially* once you start taking her to events!

I'll be back in '09 in BS hopefully with my co-driver from '08. I hope the class continues to grow so that we can always have healthy numbers at Nats!

Jason -

That's great news! John and I are looking forward to running the Midwest tours/pros again in 09', it would be great to see you and Juliann at some events if you make it up north.

Do you have plans to develop some dampers for the car ? Moton's/Sach's or ?

Best of luck in 09' -

STU had several AWD monsters (Evos/WRX STI ) and the rules for STU for mods (ie. intakes) tends to help their cars significantly more than mods for the 8. They're moving the E46 back to STU and letting them use 285s and the Evos/STI don't appear to be very worried about it.

Our car is good stock and good once you go F/I but in-between mods mean every other car can do more with less investment than the 8. The 8 getting bumped down to STX means it might stand more of a chance but it still probably won't be a favorite.

Not completely sure, we're on the road for two weeks, and the dealer in Chicago is trying to trade for a blue one right now (they only have black.) Chances are I'll be flying into Chicago over the next three weeks to drive it back to Texas. Can't wait!

Yes, we will likely be developing some dampers for it... Moton can build Motorsport, not sure what Sachs can do but we'll find out. Should be a pretty cool front swaybar coming too. Really looking forward to this!

Jason,

Glad to hear you're finally going to make the plunge. I've hard rumors that you might make a return. We'd love to have you! We have a ultra competitive class locally. As you can see below from the last event.

http://www.autocross.com/tr/modules/...ndex.php?id=73

Our next and last SCCA event is going to be on Nov. 16th at La Grave Field in Fort Worth. I'm sure that Kenny would be happy to let you co-drive his car again.

We also have two events at Mineral Wells on the 8th and 9th of November. After these 3 events we will be taking a slight slumber for the off season.

Hope to see you out there!

First Picture!!! She's a beauty, they seem to have really made improvements - car feels like it has more torque, and better throttle response. The chassis feels more rigid and sure footed. I can't wait to bolt some Hoosiers on and get to it!

More, better pictures to come.

In addition to HP numbers, I would be interested in how much it weighs.

The R3s have to use 19x8 wheels right? How are the wheel choices in that category?

We'll be scaling in and dynoing it soon... weight at first will be stock, then later in BS trim. Seems there are plenty of 19x8 choices out there, RPF1's being one of them at 18-19lb. I would assume the stock wheels are around 25lb or so.

I'll post information here when I get it.

Since you already said you're running Hoosiers... 235s for gearing or are you running 265s?

Supposedly the 19x8" rims of the R3 are lighter than the standard 18x8" rims.

I've heard 20 pounds bandied around for the 19x8s. You might not find much to gain by switching wheels if that number is indeed correct.

im not going to go hunting around the forums for them. but he has said several times, "i've seen interesting things from 09 motors in relation to horsepower" or, "i've heard interesting things about 09 motors in relation to horsepower."

Definitely running the 235's, the 265's would be TALL. I think that's plenty of rubber. If the stock wheels are that light, it will be good to just use them - although it would be nice to find a +40ish wheel to gain some track. Just driving the car around again today, it really feels like it has great torque - it pulls really hard from around 4500 in 2nd gear, definitely seems like an improvement. I have plenty of dyno charts from early cars, so I'm looking forward to comparing once we run it.
