What are you tuning with? Any ignition dwell changes?

OEM flash.

I just ordered Mazda OEM coils (latest and greatest) and wires, and new NGK plugs. Let's see if that makes a difference. I've heard those coils have much improved longevity.

Typically I recommend increasing dwell on the D585 style coils. However you’d likely be ok with factory dwell using the IGN-1A Mercury/AEM coils, though I’d still prefer to adjust it. The factory dwell table starts decreasing from around 5000 all the way to 9000. At max rpm it’s too low for most coils imo. OE coils are a fine option too. I recommend keeping a sparkplug style coil spark tester around and make it part of a regular maitenance check routine.

Summit Point Jefferson Circuit
Best Lap 1:22.46
Mods are the same as in my last post.

Loki, there are three circuits at Summit Point we should differentiate between: Main Circuit, Shenandoah Circuit, Jefferson Circuit

Thanks for your time in compiling this thread.

Haha, nice. I've arrived at the track with child seats installed a bunch of times. You didn't leave them in the paddock though?

Nice!

I'm interested to hear how you got on at LS?
That seems to be a "diva" track for me :-D

Nope, left them installed. It was my first event with the car, so I had no lap times to chase. That being said, I wasn't expecting it to be nearly that fast. I also wasn't expecting to get fuel starvation with 8 gallons left in the tank. Between that fuel issue and my wife driving I effectively had just 2 sessions that day. It was quite relaxing compared to the 12-14 session days we are used to in the miata.

OH. Once again, it totally slipped my mind. Here's my fast lap from 11/25

I got a 1:49.00 with my girlfriend in the car. I didn't get much seat time because my driver side wheel bearing went out after the first session. Luckily, skip's auto was able to ship the part down from Fremont in 3 hours, which allowed me to get back on the track for the last session. Lesson learned, bringing a spare bearing with me to my next track days. I'll be back there again with @pcs on 12/30 and 12/31!

Thanks for sharing, that's a good lap. Smooth and quick considering passenger and limited running.
Wish I could be there on the 30th and 31st now. I expect that will be a blast. I'm hoping to get a new transmission installed the same weekend, so I can be back on it in the new year :-)

Thanks! This weekends was fun, although I was left stranded after the first day with a failed ignition coil (BHR coil too which surprised me).

I got a lot of seat time without a passenger and got a new PB! 1:47.65! Unfortunately, I did not record that one in particular, but I recorded a very similar 1:47.70.

Awesome, that's a quick time. Nice job.

Did you have any problems with sound with the RB exhaust?

I finished my transmission swap and took it for a test drive yesterday. Looking forward to getting some track time in now :-)

He has the RB dual tip catback, with the BHR midpipe... no issues with sound...

I ran the RB single tip with the RB dual resonated one, no issues with sound. However, with the non-resonated midpipe last year, I didn't pass sound.

have some updates, but need to dig them up, haha. I set a PB at Laguna, have an old buttonwillow time PB, and another at big willow, haha.

Last weekend, I did:

Chuckwalla CW - 2:08.30 - R3 on FCM coilovers, hawk HP+, 255/40/17 Nexen Nfera Sur4 on 17x9 RPF1, AEM intake, RB midpipe & catback

I shaved off some additional time at Summit Point Main Circuit. Best time is now 1:22.98. Street car, 194WHP, 2919# with driver, coilovers, full interior, A/C, radio, no aero.

Hopefully this link works.

PittRace Full - 1:59.55 (NASA TTD track record)

I finally get to post something!

NOLA Motorsports Park Long (with the esses) - 2:05.82

Car is DSP autocross prepped, but was running street tires. First time running that track and also first HPDE event. Broke something the last session (axle or u joint I think) but happy the car performed the whole weekend! We experimented with the autocross style spoiler and it did in fact offer a lot of high speed stability (especially under braking) but we lost 7 mph on the front straight due to it.

Was back at Sonoma a couple weeks ago. A little smokey, but it kept the temps down which made for some quick laps. New PB, although in a different RX-8 to my earlier times...

Sonoma (long) - 1:54.47 -- blu3dragon -- RX-8 S1, estimated at 185rwhp and 3000lbs w/driver. S2 transmission & Diff. Race seat, harness & roll bar. APR wing & DIY splitter, Fatcat coilovers, 5th day on Toyo RR 255/40/17 tires (and one is pretty much done now, the other 3 could do a 6th day).

It was a good day, although I do feel like there is more time to be had out of my current setup :-)

Couple of new times for me:

Thunderhill West - 1:25.715 -- blu3dragon -- RX-8 S1, estimated at 185rwhp and 3000lbs w/driver. S2 transmission & Diff. Race seat, harness & roll bar. APR wing & DIY splitter, Fatcat coilovers, 6th day on Toyo RR 255/40/17 tires. Corded one in the next session, but they still felt pretty good!

Thunderhill West CW (reverse) - 1:25.25 -- blu3dragon -- RX-8 S1, estimated at 185rwhp and 3000lbs w/driver. S2 transmission & Diff. Race seat, harness & roll bar. APR wing & DIY splitter, Fatcat coilovers, Toyo RA1 255/40/17 tires. Previously my rain tires. Now worn to slicks :-D

Fun track, first time I've run it in reverse and I had a blast. Cool temps made for quick times, but also challenging since it was wet in the morning. Video below. I didn't get video for the laps in the regular direction.

Went a little faster on TH West CCW (normal direction)

Thunderhill West - 1:25.47 -- blu3dragon -- RX-8 S1, estimated at 185rwhp and 3000lbs w/driver. S2 transmission & Diff. Race seat, harness & roll bar. APR wing & DIY splitter, Fatcat coilovers, xxth day on Toyo RA1 255/40/17 tires. (I need to count the days on these tires, but they are pretty much done).

Thunderhill 5 mile with bypass - 3:19.570 -- blu3dragon -- RX-8 S1, estimated at 185rwhp and 3000lbs w/driver. S2 transmission & Diff. Race seat, harness & roll bar. APR wing & DIY splitter, Fatcat coilovers, 1st day on Toyo RR 255/40/17 tires. (There's still more time for me to find here, it's hard to put a full lap together)

my first time at Mid Ohio this past weekend. getting some seat time in preparation for NASA national event later this year. my best was 1:40.2, was done on the second session of the day, when track condition and tires were the best. i drove better later in the day after learning the track some more but track condition got worse.
