Finally beat the time I set back in 2016 :-)

Laguna Seca - 1:43.41 -- blu3dragon -- RX-8 S1, fresh rebuild and
~2950 lbs w/driver. S2 transmission & Diff. Race seat, harness & roll bar. APR wing & small DIY splitter, Fatcat coilovers, Toyo RR 255/40/17 tires (not fresh, but can't complain with the time).

This track seems completely dominated by power to weight and I think there were 2 or 3 seconds in the fresh rebuild over my previous couple of outings which were set with the same car but an old motor.

seems like maybe you’re playing it fairly safe on the curbs?

Tuned, although I've not got further than adjusting the AFR and even that still needs work (I am aiming for 12.5).

I missed the apex of t5 just slightly and I was slightly conscious of not wanting to put any wheels off, but otherwise I think this is a pretty clean lap. Of course there are always areas to improve... Maybe on entry curbs? There's a compromise there as they are so aggressive it can upset the car a little on braking and turn in.

yeah sorry, my reference was for entrance and mid-corner

having never driven there I can’t say, but watching the vid it seemed like there might have been some time charging over them more.

you should shoot for 13:1 AFR on a Renesis.

Bolded for truth. Lots more power targeting that, even on the old butt dyno. Remember timing needs to be tweaked too, generally less timing than stock with a tighter split.

Anyway, to get back on topic.

VIR laps. A 2:11.2 followed up by what was on pace for a 2:10.9 or so.

Hi there,

I noticed this post when researching info on engine compression relative to actual power. In your experience how does low engine compression affect your lap times? Do you see lower top speed on the straights? Can you estimate how much of a performance hit there is on track given a specific compression loss. Like say is a 10 psi average loss worth 5 mph on the long straight of your favorite track?

Also what point of lost compression or track performance do you consider an engine refresh?

Thanks,

i don't have a definitive answer... no apples to apples. but i guess at a ~2 minute circuit it was probably 2-3 seconds, although my low compression daily driver feels quite strong even in comparison to my white car so it could be even less.

flat out through T9 could get sketchy when trying to come back over to the right for T10 while left foot tap the brakes for pad knockback then get on the brakes quick for T10.

Audio is wind noise because GoPro is not good. Ran a 1:33.6 last night at NJMP Thunderbolt during TNiA. Running Nankang CR-1s instead of Yoko A052s, but no setup changes from autocross.

So I just did my first timing at gratten or ever for that matter. Cold wet day to start track was bit slick and definitely not my fastest time.
131.36
racing beat shocks
ebc rotors with cobalt friction pads front rear
falcon 245/40 rt660 with last bit of life on them.
2010 stock sport
pretty sure I can get under 130 if it want wet rained till 1pm.
I may try and get back in a few weeks. Track will be cold but better than last week.

Sonoma long circuit 1:50.508

My best lap from June NASA Norcal event at Sonoma, also a PB. Held up in a little Miata traffic in 10 and 11.

Finally

This year we entered the AER 14hr race at NJMP Thunderbolt and had a few upgrades, but the single best upgrade were the Hoosier Track Attack 200TW tires. We also added the new Haltech PnP Nexus ECU. I took what I learned about tuning and spent the day prior working on the tune. I know it still needs work, but it was safe to race with.

Anyway, at the start with a full load we were turning low 1.34's with predictive times in the 1.33's. Sure enough our fast driver had a few clean laps with a best lap of 1.33.5.

I know for a fact that had I started the fast driver a low 1.33 or even 1.32 would be possible.

Car: 2008 RX8 BC Racing dampers, God knows what HP it's making, but it's got close to 100hrs of race time on it. We ran used ST43'S all around and carry 24 gallons of fuel in the cell out back. Cars weight with the driver is definitely over 2900lbs with a full load of fuel.
