Hoosier Tire Size...Advantages discussion
Disclaimer: Ok so i know we are going to get a bunch of people that say go with the kumho cause it lasts longer and they have one clear size. I understand that you believe that, I've got hoosiers now from my previous car, I won a couple, and my any day price on them is cheaper then TireRack, so I'm gonna stick with them for now.
What I'm wondering is what size people think is the best. Originally i heard 275's were a mistake because they were too tall. so 285's were the thing. now I'm seeing people go with 295's which are almost as tall as the 275's. Is there a reason people are choosing specific sizes? and what have been advantages for moving from one size to the next?
Right now i have 275/35R18 A6's and my next set (some sitting in garage, some showing up any day now) will be 275's as well. I'm not sure what set to get for nationals, and since we have time i thought we might have a little discussion on it.
If you have any information, or incite then please share it.

Interesting that Hoosier specs "allow" a narrower rim width for the 295, compared to the 285 (9.5" vs. 10.0")...of course, we're talking about sticking them on 8" rims on the RX8. Anyhow, I'd guess that is simply a result of the slightly taller sidewall causing less issues with sidewall "bulge" characteristics...which is also probably why the 295 just looks better on the 8" rim, compared to the 285.
Jason (ULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLOSE) must either be on vacation or working, seeing as we haven't heard from him on this whole issue

Nah, he's over at the coat closet, caressing his jackets...
Chris, I think your point about it all being a matter of "splitting hairs" is right on target...the RX8 is just a set up friendly car, as long as you give it an alignment and make it think the springs are stiffer than they really are

I simply have had no reason to try another brand. If I did not win a fourth strait BS championship because I was on the "wrong" tire I think I could live with it, three is already more than I ever expected to get.
Besides I don't think any of this will matter..... After three dry years I am 99% sure we are going to get rained on this year, and I know I have the wrong (no) rain tire.
"Working" My last two projects for work... A track day and a rallycross. Three more weeks and I am off to get a club racing license. Work sucks.
