Harness options

@ Dmitrik4:
Can I ask a few questions?
What drove you to the Schroth over some other options?
Do you buckle the factory belt as well to arm the air bags?
Can I get a picture or two of your installation?
I was considering a 2", 3 point, snap in harness, tied to the lower, inboard, LATCH restraint or an eye bolt tied to the seat belt bracket in the rear, to hold in for driving, with the factory belt over-buckled to make the air bags work and to be the main restraint in event of an accident on track. LATCH is only being considered because I will have the factory belt as well.
This means I can use an inexpensive belt that uses existing hard points, and keeps the air bag system working in case something really bad happens. It allso meets the 45 degree rule (barely). It is a tad long, but stretch is not a problem, because I have the factory belt and will be in the correct position when they lock if something bad happens.
Might be an issue with getting held upright, but locking the shoulder strap, like I do today, does pretty much the same thing if the car rolls. And, after all, we have a 5 star roll-over rating .
Does anyone see much of a difference between the two approaches, aside from the fashion statement made by 2 seat belts?
Thanks,
Mike

Schroth has a street legal 4 point. Left shoulder strap has break away stitching to act as a stock 3 point extending then locking (so you don't sub) and the lock has a giant "press" button for EMTs in case of accident, and on top of that they are FIA rated I believe so you have both worlds covered.

The nice one, Quick Fit I believe, is the one that buckles into the factory seat belts has the button, the Rally 3 and 4 do not. Schroth recommends the Rally 3 for the 8, tied into the rear shoulder belt mounting point. They said not to use the lower seat belt mounts because they have not crush tested the seat. The worry is that if you hit something, the load from you going forward will rip the opening in the seat and then your shoulders take a huge down force. There are supposedly none in the country at this time. The Rally 4 is the same belt with 2 straps in the back.
I plan on one to the shoulder belt bolt, and one to either the seat belt lower inside mount, or to one of the bolts that hold the cross brace in behind the seats. This will dramatically lower the downward force. Adding a baby clip to keep the belt from sliding, will lower it even more.
Or, tie both to the shoulder belt restraint, but they recommended against it, not sure why. The reason to not use the lower mount made sense, the reason for the upper mount was " ".
Option 5 is to weld in a backing plate and make another hard point on the other side of the seat. Not likely.
Option 6, most attractive, if the belts are long enough, is to use both rear shoulder belt mounts. I will know more on Wednesday.
